Mk1 Escort Special Saloon

Hi all, i bought this mk1 escort special saloon of the dreaded ebay, and am trying to track down as much info on it as i can. was hopeing that someone on here might reconise it or have an incline of the previous drivers. The original colour seems to have been predomantly blue, but on the doors i have stripped back the blue to find it was white and has "Oakhill garage" hand signwritten on them. hope this might jog some memories. thanks

Welcome dohnut, there's plenty of national racing historians on thisn section who i'm sure will be able to offer some help as to the car's past.

What's your plans by the way, the Classic Special Saloons/Modsports series perhaps?

A lot can be determined from looking at things like rear axle and how it is located, engine comparment, gearbox tunnel, interior etc. Are you able to post any more pics showing some detail?

Good luck with the car! Another Mk1 saved.......

Hi, what area did you buy the car from matey? Hasn't the seller any info on it all to give us a clue? There were so many Escort Mk 1s back then, so without a "Starter For One", it would be difficult to obtain an honest opinion as to its provenence.

when i first saw this i thought it was, but there is a couple of things that are slightly different to the picture. which could have been changed afterwards but without contacting previous owners i will never know. my car is very very similiar to the picture, same front end panels, same suspesion, same wheels and im pretty sure it had bda in it. but the picture has been converted to single wiper where mine is still twin and the chassis is higher in the picture.

Not the same car then. Why would anybody convert a single wiper back to twins?

Perhaps to comply with road regulations if intending to MOT & tax it?

Bit ot,sorry, but I have just seen what I would describe as the best Mk1 I have ever seen. It is bubble arched, the shell is better than new, fully worked etc etc. Very best of everything has been fitted, six link rear end and so on. Only thing is that the owner[not for much longer] has a full house Cossy Turbo fitted. The car has seen 174mph!! but is geared to go a little faster! Incredible car!

As he sold it to john calvert who then sold it in white to walter then walter added the stripe but that would explain the yellow my dad found under the white?
They thought poss nick whitings car after tracing an speaking too that many people it is 70% sure my cars john robinsons? According to them

Question is where an what is the old girls history

Right finally got a bit of history: It was owned from 1981-1984 by David Hocknell, he ran a 1300 bdh engine and used it for the Sprint Leaders Championship.

It was then owned by Kevin Farrington in 1984.

Still trying to peice the rest of the history together but now i have something to go on.

Mk1 Escort Special Saloon

I owned it in the mid 1980's. Bought it from a guy in Holmes Chapel. Was a sprint / hillclimb car fitted with from memory a 1600BDA - full race all steel bottom end and standard head. Colour was as is now except it had matching front end. Seems to have had a bit of a hard life since then. Front suspension was more conventional - all the chopping away and wishbones are more recent. Sold it as a rolling chassis and surprised to see it turn up on ebay 3 or 4 miles from my place - tried to contact vendor but couldn't get a response as wanted to view before putting in a bid so well done and enjoy the rebuild! Am surprised to hear its possibly the John Robinson car as it seemed pretty basic at the time. Must have some photos of it somewhere,
Regards,
Ez
