4/5 May Historic Multi-Club Meeting- Queensland Raceway

Due to popular demand, Historic motor racing returns to Queensland Raceway on the 4th and 5th of May, with two full days of action and nostalgia promised.

The meeting is being organised by the Historic Racing Car Club(Qld), who this year have combined the best of classic historic motor sport, with a programme of events featuring a variety of historic classes and more modern sports cars. Expect to see 2 events for each group on Saturday and another 4 events on Sunday totalling over 40 for the weekend.

A highlight of the meeting will be the Queensland Cup for Historic Touring Cars. The popular cars will be chasing points in rounds 4 and 5 at the third meeting of their prestigious series as well as competing in other races over the weekend.

Expect to see swarms of Holden Toranas, battle with cars such as Mini Coopers, Cortinas and Datsuns. Other stunning, yet quick cars you can expect to see include a Holden Monaro, Porsche 911, BMW 2002 and a Mazda RX2.

So far in 2002, the Toranas have been dominant, although the V8 powered cars are always very close, and the spectacular Minis are starting to creep onto the podium.

Also expect to see a wide variety of Sports Cars and purpose built Racing Cars, as well as rare specials compete in races and regularity trials, where drivers compete against the clock, and try to match preset lap times. Handicap races for all groups will provide plenty of excitement as the backmarkers endeavour to reach the chequered flag first.

Queensland Raceway is a very spectator friendly facility, which is fully catered and licensed. The racing will be held on the 2.11km ‘Clubman Circuit’, one of the variations of the circuit. This simply equates to more of the action happening right in front of the spectator mound, which now features several grandstand sections.

Queensland Raceway is at the end of Champions Way, Willowbank, adjacent to the Willowbank Drag Strip, and just off the Cunningham Highway (near the Amberley RAAF Base).

For further details on the event, please contact HRCC President Peter Yeomans on (07) 5577 3040.
