Wow! That qually laptime would have put him well in the top 10 on the F5000 grid! Looks like he needs some competition though, was so much quicker than anything else in the field.

Heard through the grape vine that Ruapuna may not go ahead, only 9 or 10 NZV8's entered ? Plus other classes scapled as not enough enterees.
Would be a shame if they had to cancel the whole round.

my understanding - from pretty good authority - is that there is no question of Ruapuna not going ahead

the endurance race has been canned but support continues for those categories who are supporting the series

numbers might be down but the quality is not

not sure if this helped with ute numbers..

NZ V8 Utes Eligibility

The Board of NZ V8 Utes met recently to review the future of the VY and VZ Commodore Ute and the AU Falcon Ute within the category.

Eligibility of these vehicles was scheduled to cease at the end of the 2010/2011 season and after consideration the board has confirmed that the eligibilty for these models will not be extended further.

The current VE Commodore and BF Falcon will be the only eligible models for the current season.

Sorry No not a ST fan, but a Motorsport fan. I think Ruapuna needs to go ahead to show they are in for the fight.
Would be a shame if it was canned.

Maybe the vine wasn't tight enough and missed the Enduro part of it.

Just back from Big Boys Toys... NZST are there with two cars and a chassis, poster and drivers signing things, Thunder in the Park are there with serveral cars and a couple of guys handing out flyers and talking to the crowd, D1NZ are there with a couple of cars doing demos.

NZV8s are.......................

Actually, I think I can probably answer my previous post....

Certainly from out outsiders perspective, that answer would be: NZV8's are promoted by a company that are either completely innept or are hell bent on destroying what's left of the class.

one of life's mysteries *shrugs* you'd think Big Boys Toys would've been a good opportunity to promote the new car? the MRX Ford looks a lot better than the ST Ford (imo) and i'm sure the public would've agreed if they saw the two next to each other in the flesh. someone really needs to get the new car out in the public and promote the hell out of it! i'm sure the Ford ST will be shown on Gillette Motorsport tomorrow.. yet the MRX car sits in a showroom *shakes head* odd way of trying to sell/promote your new car?

Ah, got it now, thx. Was trying to associate the greed comment directly with the MRX car not being there and couldn't make it fit .

The new generation NZV8 - Brand protection

The new generation plan will take effect from and including the 2012/13 racing season. The NZV8 brand will be protected in the following way:

• As viewed by the fans, the body shape will be clearly identifiable as a Ford or Holden large car manufactured in Australia. The design allows for the body appearance to be updated in pace with style evolution, with either no or only superficial change to the base rolling chassis.

• Engines will be from the same global design source, that is a GM series engine for a Holden and a Ford engine for a Ford. Each engine design type and its state of tune will be homologated by NZV8. Only fuel injected engines that are fully performance programmable will be eligible to ensure that reasonable parity between brands is achievable.

• Within the ten year life span, invitations may be issued to other manufacturers to compete in the NZV8 formula with their own body style, using the formula’s common rolling chassis and an NZV8 approved engine of their own choice.
The new generation NZV8 - Targeted Performance and Estimated Cost

NZV8 considers that it is vital that costs are not allowed to escalate outside the reach of current stakeholders in general, indeed the amortized cost per year over the ten year life span of the new generation NZV8 is targeted to be less than the average annual cost to stakeholders over the past five years. Target costs [excl GST] are:

1. Rolling chassis - $65,000. Includes Ford or Holden bracket mounted body parts, door shuts, rear guards ready to accept body panels and bolt on parts, front and rear suspension, rear axle complete, steering column and rack, pedal box.

2. Turn key vehicle utilizing all new components - $150,000.

3. A turn key vehicle assembled by an owner builder using existing mechanical parts should be achievable for $100,000.

4. To ease up-front costs, NZV8 regulations will allow the use of current engine, gearbox and brake components in the new chassis for the 2012/13 racing season.

5. Running costs are expected to be in the region of $70 – 80K per season.

6. New engines and gearboxes will be allowed from 2012/13, with new engines tuned for parity with 2011/12 vehicle performance as necessary.

7. 18” wheels are specified, to allow the use of modern racing tyres.

hmmm i may have to jump up and down about the chassis going up 5 grand *tongue in cheek*

Genuine question (no stirring) - With a change to the new chassis/panels only, and running the current engine & box, how do they calculate these figures?
What have they included and what have they left out? I'd like to see the figures.
