Dunrod Circuit is like Thruxton but 3 times longer, half the width and with every corner (bar 1) being Church corner all with no runoff except for hedges, trees and the occasional house.
I think N.Ireland could get a race (Mondello or Kirkistown) but do you mean Nutts Corner that's a mile away? Also why Dunrod, speculation for 2019...

Mark Higgins has driven Subaru Imprezas at Snaefell (Manx TT). In 2016 he drove a 550hp Prodrive built one, clocking 17'49.75 at 204 km/h average. Could be worse... :P

On a pedantic point, Mondello is in the Republic rather than Northern Ireland. Nutts Corner is also unlikely to get a MSA race licence (although it is used for sprinting. Whilst BTCC appearing at Kirkistown (or indeed, the rarely used Bishopscourt) would be undoubtedly good fun, I doubt if either circuit has the facilities to cope with the BTCC package and the surrounding infrastructure is a bit lacking.

Still, the idea of racing at Dundrod is appealing (and having driven a few hire car laps over the weekend, it would be eventful), but never likely to happen.

As a time trial on a closed course. Now try that in a race setting with 31 other cars on track all fighting for position!

If we're talking other circuits/configurations, then I'd love to see them go back to the Donington GP layout, I reckon the two hairpins would provide a few more good overtaking opportunities and create some of the same excitement you get with the hairpin at Croft (albeit action that spectators can actually see trackside).

Maybe have two races on the big circuit, then the final one on the shorter one

Me too: when younger and fitter I used to like to spectate on the infield at Schwantz which provided a good view from the Craners to McLeans. As the cars disappeared out of McLeans we would run the hundred yards or so toward the Exhibition Centre where we got a good view of them entering the loop and coming back to the main straight.

How many years ago was that? I seem to remember meeting Tom Chilton who was running an Astra coupe...

Mondello can't afford to host anything which was the reason they lost everything they once had. It's a long time since we had anything of note here and unlikely we ever will again.

At least I saw the Euro RX and BSB. When we had the BTCC and British GT in the early 2000's, both were in a weak state. BOSS is also a long distant memory. The Leinster Trophy event used to have a round of the Euro FF2000/FOpel and a good demonstration of some kind as well as strong supporting races. No more unfortunately.

Now it's just Irish championships only and many of those grids are single digit numbers. Rallycross is struggling badly. Drifting is huge though and a bit of fun and the Irish drivers are up there with the best so it's top quality. Whether you are a purist who thinks Drifting is/isn't motorsport, there's no doubting the appeal to new motorsport fans which is a good thing.

Mondello was good, got better grids than Knockhill and it's a shame the financial troubles ended it when it did
