Should V8SC follow F1 pointscore?

I see that this years F1 champion will be based on his number of wins, regardless of his pointscore. Is this a good idea for V8SC?

No, they should follow MotoGP scoring.

Absolutely they should. The guy who wins the most races ,not the guy who circulates for points is the champion. This would make having a dive at the last corner worth the effort and might even wake up the racing.

The F1 points system is abit mix n match, which doesn't really work.

However surely anything is an improvement on the current 'points for everyone' setup

It's worse for V8s (or ATCC) as the series is not geared so much towards the most common race winner, with multiple races per round and the like.

They should do a chase like nascar.

My Favourite 08 moment was when Courtney/Besnard comeback drive at Bathurst. Courtney raced through to dominate the opening stint had 15 sec. gap to Lowndes who was in 2nd. In the 2nd stint a slowly deflating tyre (originally diagnosed as a damaged anti-roll bar) slowed Besnard's stint in Courtney's car allowing Whincup to assert dominance over the field rest of the race. On lap 160 S.Richards, fading badly on rear tyres was unable to stop Courtney move into 3rd place.

VESA do have a tendency to follow what other categories instigate.

I think the proposed F1 point system is flawed for F1 but would work in a series such as the 5 litre championship

And have people only need to perform in the last part of the year?

Or have a farce like last year where Kyle Busch dominates the first 26 races, then loses his points lead, has a bad run and is out of contention after a couple of Chase races.....

A contrived Chase would almost finish it off for me honestly....

The difference in value from a 4th place to a race win is alot less in 5 litre touring cars than F1 in my opinion as the spread of top teams is broader, hence a winners-based system wouldn't really work here I think.

At Winton at least for example, sure at Bathurst 1st place is much better result than 4th, but at Winton it might just be the result of a dodgy pit stop, poor start from pole and not much different pace to the winner.

No way. The new F1 points system is dumb. It would have been simpler to increase the points awarded to winners.

Perhaps V8SC should increase the gaps between the points positions.

Anyway, V8SC need to get rid of that new qualifying rule first.

No, but the points should be weighted in such a way that a win is worth pushing for. The 2008 F1 points system was 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. For 2009, FOTA proposed a 12-9-7-5-4-3-2-1 (which the FIA turned down in favour of the "gold medal" rule) but you get the idea - instead of being content with second place, structure the points in such a way that means the drivers will always fight for a win.

Exactly my point regarding motogp. There is enough incentive to win and be up the top. And it always seems to determine the right champion too, because it combines consistency and race wins.

To be honest, the Chase has to be the worst points system going around at the moment.

Exactly. Personally I think points should only be awarded down to 10th. Anymore and its just trying to help teams with their press releases.

"Insert name here racing had a great weekend with a 19th in race 1, working our way up to 13th in race 2. With 11,435 points for the round it has elevated us to 22nd in the championship."

What was wrong with the 'old' F1 system of 10-6-4-3-2-1 ??

Nothing wrong with it, rewarded the winner and the people doing the business

Only problem was the team owners who like to tell their sponsors they got 200 points for the weekend even though their best race finish was 25th

The new F1 scoring system of most wins takes the title has been scrapped for this year. It was introduced contrary to the FIA's own regulations which state that changes to the regulations cannot be made after January 1 without unanimous approval from the teams.
