Cheese [VASC16R6R7] WD40 Phillip Island SuperSprint - 15-17Apr

5 races, 5 different winners...

Will we see this kept up at Phillip Island?

Will 888 run 1-2-3 there as Mr Dane dreams of?

Will PRA get 6 cars on the grid for the 2 series?
Will Mr Pither keep up his record of a written off car per round?

Will HRT qualify in front of Erebus...?

Answers in 2 weeks...

Racenut7 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I heard at the beginning of the year that Phillip Island is a two day event for V8SC.

My Favourite 08 moment was when Courtney/Besnard comeback drive at Bathurst. Courtney raced through to dominate the opening stint had 15 sec. gap to Lowndes who was in 2nd. In the 2nd stint a slowly deflating tyre (originally diagnosed as a damaged anti-roll bar) slowed Besnard's stint in Courtney's car allowing Whincup to assert dominance over the field rest of the race. On lap 160 S.Richards, fading badly on rear tyres was unable to stop Courtney move into 3rd place.

I thought this was the case as well but the schedule on the V8 website shows 2 60 minute sessions on Friday for the Championship cars. However it is interesting to note on Fox's EPG it says they are not showing the second session understandably preferring P2 from the Chinese F1 instead.

At this stage of the year there seem to be more questions than answers.

Some people are way further down the point score order than they would be expected to be, some people have performed better than expected and some have underperformed.

As Mr Davison has commented consistency will be the key this year but consistently fast seems to be the preserve of the 888 trio.

Can BJR get some more consistent pace out of their machines and get Mr Slade into the territory consistently occupied by Mr Coulthard last year and can Mr Coulthard find consistent race weekend long pace.

Big difference this weekend of course will be the fact that only the hard tyre will be used so things may be a bit different to the pace and race results seen by some at the soft tyre Symmons Round.

Typical PI weather. Wet racing will be fun to watch though.

And likely to be sunburnt should the sun break through the clouds for only a few moments. You have gotta love Phillip Island.

Axeman444 is pointing out Pirtek is only retro because of Marcos Ambrose and his days at Pirtek-Stone Brothers Racing. (Which Jimmy and Ross Stone also worked alongside Dick Johnson back in the day)

And I'm pointing out that the retro round at Sandown will be entirely made up of retro inspired liveries, and they do NOT need to pertain directly to the team's history. Just because the livery was ran by Stone Brothers and not DJR is irrelevant.

If the retro livery for Sandown HAD to be directly related to the team, then it will be interesting to see liveries for teams with shorter histories, like SuperBlack or LDM...

Series has been really interesting this year with controversy at the end of both rounds. Can't help but feeling the season will eventually turn into a 888 steamroll but I'll enjoy the uncertainty while it lasts. PI is an awesome track and if they're racing in the rain it'll be all the more interesting.

I don't see the point of a team running a livery during a celebrated "Retro Round" if it has nothing to do with the team's history. Would there be any point in LDM running a JPS livery for example?

If the REC's involved were previously used by a now defunct team, and the current team utilising those REC's doesn't have a historical livery to fall back on, then maybe the previous liveries of that defunct team could be used.

Otherwise as a "Retro Round" livery it should be a livery from that team's history, or if not, the team should use it elsewhere on the calendar, as Pirtek & DJRTP are doing here

Makes you wonder why DJR did the Ambrose inspired Pirtek livery then...

The talk is that if the Sandown retro round is established, a team that has no real heritage then they will adopt a livery from either their marque's or a 'generic' heritage livery.

If I was selling sponsorship, a retro livery on 1 car circulating among 26 regular presented cars would probably gain more coverage than being 1 of 26 cars all with new retro liveries.

Could also come down to dollars. For arguments sake Shell may be paying more for retro colours at Sandown.

Is it Ambrose inspired?

It looks like a car painted in Pirtek colours, just like Andrew Jordan in the BTCC, or Matt Brabham's car for the Indy 500.

The design doesn't really have similiar lines to any of the SBR ones.

Especially as V8Supercars spent so many years denouncing, deriding and spitting on anything that happened before 1997 telling us how bad it all was....

Now they love it because they see other sports making $$$ out of their 'heritage', this mob want to get in on the action when it suits them...

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Another good saturday race, appears the longer races on saturday are doing the right thing compared to last years shorter races

Its just my opinion but i am not a fan of the new race number fonts, I find a some of them not clear to read. The 18 and the 33 and 34 especially. Think they need to look at it
