Why didn't ITV show the race live this time? Was there a special episode of Corontaion Street scheduled for the in-demand 5am slot?

And if I'm right, we don't get Malaysia live either, even though they said it will be today. Am I correct in thinking that last year's Malaysian GP was live at 7 in the morning, not 8?

It was live! as I listened to 5 live during the ads. I think
Malaysia is on slightly later than last year cos the clocks
have not changed yet.

I can tell you it wasn't live. The race on ITV began at half six, right? Okay.

Japan isn't a half hour time zone, therefore there is no way ITV were showing it live. And if you think about it, they never said during the coverage that it was live.

I think the race started 2:30pm local time. I remember reading it somewhere.

On German RTL the race started 7:30am (CET), and they show all the races live.

But wouldn't 2:30pm Japanese time be 5:30am in Britain? Because races start at 2pm usually, and it's always been 5am here.

Japan is +9 hours on GMT
UK is +1 hours on GMT

Therefore
0000 m night UK is 0800 Japan
0100 UK is 0900 Japan
0200 UK is 1000 Japan
0600 UK is 1400 Japan
0630 UK is 1430 Japan

Perhaps almost live, TV normally have a few seconds delay in case a naughty word is said and thus let the man with the bleeper bleep it out.

Perhaps it's got something to do with summer time? We haven't set our clocks back to "normal" time yet, and both in 98 and 99 the Japanese GP was held after summer time had ended. (Nov 1st and Oct 31st respectively.)

Well done, normal time = GMT or Greenwich Mean Time, the one thing the UK leads the world....TIME

After about 26 - 29 Oct we in the UK would be on GMT time not British Summer Time (BST) last year. JApn being sensible do not adjust their timepieces.

It is the time of year airlines change schdules and it ALWAYS causes confusion. (GMT is the universal time of measurment)

I thought UT was the universal time of measurement.

As far as I know, UT was introduced a couple (25?) of years ago,
when Britain was thinking about introducing summer time.
I guessed they had done it to avoid confusion during summer in Greenwich...

I was trapped in Alabama during this race. The TV Guide in Alabama said that the race was being broadcast "live" at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.

This could not possibly be true.

Maybe what we consider live here is not what they consider live in Alabama ?

Gee, I have not missed a race live on TV or at the track in the last 3 and a half years . Not always in English though.

It was live, during the ads I listened to BBC 5 live.
When ITV returned it was a lap later than when I had the radio on! I am sick of people moaning about ITV, BBCs
coverage was appalling until 96, I remember Brazil 94 only having highlights and they only ever shown the last 5 minutes of qualifying if we were lucky and endless waiting
on grandstand to get any post race interviews.

But the BBC didn't have ad breaks. And ITV's ad breaks are getting longer and longer. And more of them are creeping in. Which is one reason why so many people are complaining about ITV.

AND the ITV ad's are all the **** one's. Ron Dennis telling how good his mobile is for the upteeth time. One phone I will not be buying......Whatsname Jones in his pants on about the new Vauxhall, another thing I will not now buy....

Don K Yes UT is universal time the same as Z time or Zulu time, UTC and all the others. All are based on the time at Greenwich, London, UK. Regardless of anything else Greenwich was the the first to welcome the year 2000 all the others were GMT (or UT)(or Z) +/- GMT. If you get the chance have a visit to Greenwich, they have a brass strip laid in the road marking the latitude 0 which indicate the pass of time. The story is a long one but we English do lead the world in time.

I get the feeling the Japanese GP usually starts on the half hour.
