johnny sauter signs with rcr....
from www.autosport.com
Richard Childress Racing has signed up-and-coming driver Johnny Sauter to drive its AOL-backed number 30 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the 2004 Nextel Cup. "Johnny is the type of driver that fits the RCR mould," said team boss Richard Childress, "so I know he'll do a great job in the AOL Chevrolet." This year Sauter shared RCR's number 21 Busch Series car with the team's top Cup driver Kevin Harvick and between them they secured the owners' championship title. The 25-year-old also made a handful of Winston Cup appearances in the Morgan-McLure Motorsports Kodak Pontiac. He now takes over the least successful of RCR's Cup cars - driven in 2003 by Jeff Green and then Steve Park. Sauter's signing finally ends all speculation that Jeff Burton might move across to RCR from the Roush Racing Ford team. Both Burton and Roush have pledged to race on together, even if they have to run unsponsored after the loss of 2003 backer Citgo. Jeremy Mayfield had also been linked to the RCR seat. Roush # 99 team could have the National Guard sponsoring them in next season.

Correction for the last rumour, from Jayski's Silly Season page: National Guard is now rumoured to be the Co-sponsor for Biffles #16 with Grainger OR Subway and #99 possibly have funding from Astra Zeneca.

AOL seems to like to keep the talent level in the #30 car constant.
