fitta should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Recently visited Barcelona and walked in Montjuic Park, where the Spanish GP was held in early 70s. Would have loved to know where the old track went...the roads in the park are very narrow.

Would be very interested in seeing a track layout. next tiem I go, I would like to walk the circuit - I did that at Cystal Palace in 1972, not long before it closed

Welcome to the forum Fitta,

I fully expect a chap by the name of Jarama to provide a fully detailed answer to your Montjuic Park question. As I recall RolF Stommelin had a major accident there which resulted in the death of some spectators. The organisors were blamed because they failed to ensure that the safety barriers were installed correctly.

A section of Crystal Palace has recently been reopened by the BARC. They run a Sprint meeting in May.

Fitta,

I walked around MontJuic several years ago, too.
(There's nothing to do apart from eat & drink from 1200 til 1600hrs).
I think the narrow roads are some of the 1930 originals but the rest is under buildings and 'garden features'.

Circuit diagram is at:
{img://www.silhouet.com/motorsport/tracks/montjuic.jpg}
(someone tell me how to do this piccie stuff!)
You should be able to superimpose the cuurent park map over it.

Pete (Mr MotoArchive) is right:
In 1975 Rolf Stommelen's Embassy Hill went over the barriers and four people were killed.

Gerard,
I was trying to get the map picture to appear within the post and not as the URL!

You can't edit someone elses post now, nor can you edit your own after 5 minutes (doh).

Read the forum FAQ.

Graham, I didn't mean yelwoci should edit my post. I meant if he clicks on the edit icon of my post, a window appears in which he can see how it's done.

Hi, fitta, I'll try to give you a little help about the Montju´c Circuit.

Where the old track went? Anywhere. The old track is in the same spot that always and you can walk or drive around it... though the roads seem very narrow by today's standards.

It's very easy to find the circuit. Next time you'll go to Barcelona, ask for the Plaša de Espanya, then you must walk no more than 200 meter to be in the one and only straight, worth of this name, of the track: is the little straight that you can see in the lower part of the map picture; then, you must take right, anti-clockwise, and follow the circuit -with a map picture is very easy-. You can walk or drive it around completely.

The start/finish line was, at first, this short straight. In the 60's was changed to the fast left-hander that we can see in the upper part of the map picture.

The circuit is 3790'65 meter long. One of his features, was that remain unchanged since his first race -IV G.P. de la Penya Rhin, 1933- to the very last Grand Prix -XXIII G.P. de Espa˝a, 1975-.

This way, you can compare the first pole position with the last one, fastests laps, etc.

'33/Tazio Nuvolari/2.9 Alfa Romeo 8C Monza/PP:2'16"/FL:2'13"
'73/Ronnie Peterson/3.0 Lotus Ford 72/PP:1'21"8/FL:1'23"8

Montju´c, what a GREAT circuit...

Ah but Gerard old son, mere 10T mortals no longer have permission to edit or look at the underlying text of someone elses post. Neither can we edit after 5 minutes.

Hopefully someone will prove me wrong coz it's a pain in the arse.

Jarama,

Interesting to note that Nuvolari's fastest lap beat his/ the pole position time whereas Peterson's PP was the faster.

Weather, or some inherent characteristic of the different eras?

How I pronounce Montju´c?:

I'm not english philologist, as you all can see when reading my posts, but I'll try to explain the pronounciation of this catalan word:

The 'o' in 'Mont' sounds like the same letter in 'cord';
'ju´c' sounds like the 'jui' of 'juice', and finishes like the 'ick' of 'kick'.
