Don't keel over in shock. but I will be there!
Boy George is repairing the engine after testing (see the report on www.flatoutfarr.co.uk) so I will be back out, after 18 months.

Why, are you coming out then?

I'm not entering until I get my heap sorted out, so I'll probably end up on the reserves list... if I'm lucky!

Found out what is wrong with the engine;
valve hit the piston when the collets fell out! Valve very bent!!!
Piston appears to be OK, accroding to George, so got away with just a replacement valve, collet etc; That was a lucky escape!
There is a God.

That should not happen, when I install a valve I have always given it a sharp tap on the end of the stem with hammer to ensure the collets are sitting nice and snug, this was taught me by an old mechanic many years ago when I was about 16 and seems to do the trick. It only needs a burr or a bit of crap under the collets and this can happen.

PS we cross posted Graham, sorry.

rev counter said it only went to 7000! head is on anti-pump hydraulic lifters(Kent cam ones) Cam will only go to 6300 (for max Power). It is a mild one CVH 23. very odd?!

We have revved CVH's to 7200 on these lifters without problems before

Phil, PM me your email address and I will send you one. Grid is 24, although at Lydden we usually split the classes into two grids so potentially 48.

Now up to 17.

doesn't mean that the valve springs arnt too soft though, also the boost on the back of the inlet valve will effectivly LOWER the spring pressure

Why not use solid lifters at those revs?

He'd need a different cam, the hydraulic profile cams don't work very well with solids in my experience. And solids in CVH's are a pain to work with, probably worse than solids on Vauxhall's.

But with a turbo, it doesn't need all them revs. Something else strange - I like your theory guru. Get the springs checked..... they may be going soft.

Rob.

guys, your help is appreciated; sounds like i need stiffer valve springs, although Kent say they should be OK;
Graham, would love to pick your brains on turbo problems etc;
Al and Rob; any useful info from your vast experience gratefully welcomed.
E-mail me on chris@flatoutfarr.co.uk please. If there are anytechnical books worth getting, am very willing to listen to advice from you guys. Graham, if you are willing to give me your phone number, would love a gas with you about turbos. Thanks guys
