GP2 Asia Rounds 1&2 Yas Marina
i got pen news. Fauzy & Aleshin both did something wrong, Aleshin cross the line twice after the flag was out so 3 place pen but got in luck as Fauzy pick up a ten place grid pen for touching his team mate (and as we all know that is a no-no) Fauzy will start last and Aleshin will start a row ahead.

What about AirAsia? I was expecting them to be a proper team, but they are even front-runners with Valsecchi, who seems to love this track. Berthon very close to Gutierrez for top rookie & disappointing Leimer & Rapax, but most of all Sam Bird((

Thank you, Skells!
Really looking forward to this, actually. Never watched a GP2 Asia race. Looks like a very strong line-up this year. What do we think of the new cars? And how do we think they'll perform round the shortened Yas Marina? (ie. times in comparison to last year, overtaking etc) Selby |

As for the look of the cars, I think they look great! The wide front wing and out of proportion small rear wing simply make them look just like Formula 1 cars, and they have a tailfin which again looks similar. I grew used to the 2009 F1 cars quickly after originally thinking, like everyone else, they looked butt ugly. I think the Lotus ART is just as stunning as the Team Lotus F1 car. |

Fortunately mine isn't here at the mo so he won't be crying at the tv screen!
They are hideous, the front reminds me of those daft 'fun karts' you used to find at holiday parks! Forgot to mention Berthon's qualy which was very good as ivanalesi poited out. Could be good in the midfield as a couple of the quicker guys make amends for crap qualy performances! |

What a total mess, multiple cars crashed on the finish and back straights. Amateur hour!
Those new Dallaras look hideous, too. |

Well that was a pretty mental first 3-4 corners.
the Abu Dhabi pit lane exit isn't really designed for the whole field to come through together is it? |

Red flag after 1 1/2 laps - would that make it a full restart?

Well, new car seems to decrease the dirty air zone but not enough to actually allow overtaking.
Tyres are holding out a bit too well for my liking - if they had run under SC longer instead of red flagging, pit stops would have been uneccesary. |

Hmm... not quite as thrilling as I remember GP2 being! Maybe it's just the circuit.
If not, maybe next year they can bring back the 2006 cars? They were awesome |

That was a frustrating race to watch, it made me cringe the amount of heavily damaged brand new shiny Dallara's after the first lap and the red flag. Luiz Razia is a lucky boy, that was a monumental impact into the back of Clos' stalled car, and then a second big impact upside down going diagonally into the barrier before righting itself. And what was Gonzalez doing on the back straight? Everyone slowing down for the SC, except him, ploughed straight into the back of Pic and sent his car facing towards the sky at a severe angle. And Fairuz Fauzy, crazy driving again, you wouldn't think he'd been racing single-seaters for a decade. It should be a red card for him this weekend, he was already penalised from qualy.
As for Bianchi, solid defending all the way through, despite Grosjean being much quicker until the last 5 laps when his tyres were screwed from a consistently aggressive style trying to get past, yet Bianchi had calmly preserved his. If they had used the longer configuration, Grosjean surely would have got by on the back straight. Excellent performance from them both though, class of the field. The Abu Dhabi track just isn't very good for overtaking, thats plain to see. |
