certainly hard to convice a driver about that! Theo only problem is that maybe others will want to do the same... |

I think that is the point of why he said it! His point, no doubt, is that in some ways maybe fighting for the title is very simple.

I can see Gerhards point of view, lighter car gets to the first corner first and stays out of possible trouble, however, if all 4 championship contenders stay out of trouble, history suggests that a 1 stopper is the best stratergy at Monza.
Interesting and difficult decision for all teams and drivers (esp in the WDC/WCC fight) to make. Last edited by Mr V; 8 Sep 2003 at 17:09. |

Yeah, Monza is pretty different to Hungaroring, but maybe he thinks a light Williams would be fastest enough to make it work on a number of stops during the race.
Or perhaps they will want to fill the car and try and stick it on pole... - Wonder how Webber will go in the Jaguar. |

In an interview with (the real ) Mark Webber in this weeks Autosport, he says that the R4 likes all the tracks that the R3 didn't.

Rather great advice from Gerhard, JPM would be hoping he can heed the advice. On Webber's chances i'm not optimistic about a great showing but one thing Webber can do is look after a car through the race & he may be able to take advantage's of other competitors DNF's.

People want Berger to give an opinion, then he does and everyone is an expert!
You can over complicate these matters. I think "put it on pole and stay out of trouble" sounds like good honest simple advice. No psychological rubbish, no great tactics. Just put it on pole and stay out of trouble. Top advice if you ask me. |

Kind of reminds me of Alan Jones before his last race (first time around) at Las Vegas in 1981. After qualifying he was asked what his plan was for the race. His answer: "To get out in front and stay there!" Which is of course exactly what he did.

Montoya could have done a Piquet and answered "No, today I want to be eleventh!"
