All this talk of artisans and the old ways of doing things. It never goes away and indeed you find it in the most unlikely places.
My project (which is about to finish) is designed to produce approx (cos I can't remember the exact figure) $1m dollars of gas per hour. No small figure in anyone's language. To do this the equipment, which is more vast than a vast thing in an extremely large place, must be 100% correct. The problem is that a contractor, which is what you need to build it, will only do what the contract says he must do. Because all those good people who shook hands and signed a deal in December 199(?) forgot to include the necessary words to make the contractor do what they wanted it created a problem. Contracts are written to apply the most risk to the contractor but if you write what you want it'll cost you more. This is not new just the different way people think at different times of development. Soo the upshot is that we get to four months before switch on and Fred Dibnah turns up in the guise of a well respected Shell engineer. He then turns the contract on its head just because the deal the companies agreed is not what he wants now! So, as far as I'm concerned I like artisans. They make me more money. |

rest T't bar between 2 cam bearings, vernier through the hole on to the top of the bucket, dimension is from the centrline of the cam . . . . subtract the cam diameter and shim accordingly . . . first time I used it I got 3 out of 4 clearances spot on first time . . . still had to take the cam out again though!

On the American Hot Rod and Chopper TV programmes they use them for lots of stuff including one-off billet wheels. The bikers also have a Flowjet waterjet cutter that is computer controlled. Incredible to watch a thick piece of metal being cut by a jet of water......

Funny old day today. It was my mates funeral and he had a lovely send of with his best friend "fellow racer" doing him proud with a moving speech and some pictures of him racing .At the end, Adrian ,Richard's best friend said that we must all live life to the full.
Friday night is 10k run night for me and i had a nice run listening to Pink Floyd and also laughing out loud at Robin's caption about Gordon's BMW eating his Anglia. I also thought about how lucky i am ,I might be broke in money but I am very rich with many friend's. |

Well as the weather has turned for the better I've had to come back to the UK to do some work and earn enough money to live.
As you can see I am also doing a bit of money laundering this morning !!! |

Made a visit today to the London boat show- for first time in several years. Neglected to notice that it isn't at Earls Court anymore. Where the heck is 'Excel' anyway?
Anyway, my underground ticket still got me there. Those boating types really know how to spend money They would go historic racing with their small change... (And some probably do.) Did find this though- 1959 vintage 'Healey' speedboat (as they were called then before speed was a dirty word) complete with MGA engine. Some say B series make good boat anchors..... |

A lot nearer to you than Earls Court is. Bottom of M11, keep going about 6 miles on the N Circ and you're there.

Apparantly around 1750 Healey speedboats were made, and yes, they were designed by Donald. Stirling Moss was amongst those buyers. Found a 2009 sale ad for a 1956 boat (period Mercury outboard powered) in USA, complete with 100/6 towcar. Now that would be cool! |

Not had a lot to do with boats. Years ago i built an A series for a customer for his river boat. Lovely little engine ticked over like a clock.I quizzed him about the engine a year or so later and he said he had replaced the engine with an electric motor.Whats all that about
