MSA Fines

I've just read a very interesting piece in the latest MSA Newsletter about where the fines made by Clerks & Stewards go to, contry to what the Motors TV commentators would have you believe it's not the Clerks Hotel expenses.
In 2015, the over £75k raised was split:

Association of Air Ambulances £2,000
Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance Trust £2,000

Scotland Charity Air Ambulance £2,000
Wales Air Ambulance £2,000
Derbyshire, Leicester & Rutland AA Trust £2,000
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance £2,000
Thames Valley Air Ambulance £2,000
Great West Air Ambulance £2,000
Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance £2,000
Great North Air Ambulance £2,000
Devon Air Ambulance £2,000
BEN £5,000
Roadsafe £5,000
Henry Surtees Foundation £5,000
UK Youth £5,000
Torch Trophy £5,000
Motor Sport Safety Fund £10,000
FIA (Nepal Solidarity Fund) €20,000 £14,185

Read this with great interest and glad the fines are being distributed to many charities and seems appropriate that a lot of the money is going to air ambulances as they are probably used for serious incidents. Just checking so no matter what circuit is being raced at or the organising club all fines are issued by the MSA?

Yes, regardless of the event if its run under an MSA permit any fines issued by the clerk (or stewards) are at the end of the meeting given to the Steward of the meeting (MSA steward) and then sent to the MSA. Although I believe that they have now set up a telephone system to enable drivers to pay over the phone

For the past couple of years they can also pay the Steward by card as well although that does require a mobile phone signal which as you know is a bit hit or miss unless you live in a city centre.

A few years ago I was the Steward at a Nat A Kart meeting and went home with over £2000 mainly in Irish and Scottish £50 notes, the girl in my local Bank gave me some funny looks when I paid it in.

Pretty certain it wasn't the cash that generated the look!

Well, that's not a surprise !!!

It's good to hear that the monies go to deserving causes that the drivers themselves could well benefit from, including the Toyota GB dinner ......

I wonder what that was ......
