The 5.5L diesel engine that was run by Peugeot was indeed a V12, but TEOS indicate on their website that they did develop a 5.5L V10 twin-turbo diesel engine.

Now, the motorsport-total.com article suggests that the new engine would be based on a diesel aircraft engine.

Christian Mogami has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Stating that it will be like an aircraft diesel engine means it will be flat 180 degree block.

Modern aircraft diesel engine designed by that French team is a air/oil cooled flat engine.

I think this was mentioned earlier but Judd has plans for 2014 if I'm not mistaken for LMP1?

These capacities are regardless of allowed fuel flow rate, which is in turn a function of how powerful a hybrid system the car has. More hybrid power = less fuel flow rate.
This would mean the diesel carries about 9+-5kg(to account for variations in driver weight) if both cars unfueled and driverless reach the minimum weight(density ~(.8kg/l)? I think there is a small performance advantage here in race trim.

Is Judd still on business? I heard rumours that they were on trouble after the failed Indycar project.

FSI or some other kind of DI is the only way to respect fuel flows without having a ridiculous power output.

They are in some kind of business. The reason I mentioned in my earlier post was because I noticed they were hiring in the engine department. YOu can hide your ambitions but you cannot hide the fact that you have to employ people for your plans.

This link is already in the HPD thread but I thought it should be in this one too. Very interesting stuff. I'm really curious to know how these cars will sound.

"Griffiths equated what he's seen on the dyno with the derivation of HPD's 2.2-liter open-wheel mill as having a diesel-like power curve"

This is a key point. I can't see all this freedom given by ACO for 2014 engines... with the use of severe fuel flows, the solution basicly is one: project an engine that developes soon a lot of torque, making the engine revving as low possible!
As someone said some time ago, 2014 petrol engines will be something like a turbodiesel with an higher redline.

Let's see what kind of racing this produces. It might be great, or not.

If Toyota goes with the (rumored) 5-liter V8, Porsche with ~2-liter I4, HPD with a 2.2 V6, and Audi with another V6 diesel I'd call that variety.

Throw in Dome with maybe a V10 Judd ....

On top of that, two or three different hybrid systems (assuming we see batteries, flybrid, and super-capacitors) all possibly operating at different output levels ... pretty fair amount of freedom for designers.

Does that seem to indicate Dyson to the WEC? Chris has certainly been getting in the mix at certain rounds this year. My opinion is that they would get worked over but I'd still love to see them on the grid.

As Hindy said - I don't see why AER make that engine if they don't have a place to put it.

Interesting concept. Thermal efficiency up near 40% and they will not use batteries, flywheels or capacitors. Would like to hear more about how this system works.
