I've been on holiday since the Nurburgring and only checked in today due to miserable weather on Long Beach Island.

The Healey was a red and white car that was badly damaged at both ends. Being 10 days ago I don't remember the names on the car but want to say it was Jeremy Walsh?? Perhaps I have the names wrong. It came off the Nordschleife on a low-loader looking a real mess.

Despite the disappointment of Friday's race on the Nordschleife being cancelled, I had a great weekend and really liked the event. The highlight was sneaking the Cortina over to the Nordschleife on Saturday and Sunday for 3 and 5 laps respectively. What an experience! Totally irresponsible of me I know as the car is not road legal and I'm sure I would have had a nightmare on my hands if I'd hit someone but I couldn't resist. Mind blowing experience.

Back to my holidays and a wet and windy beach.

Roger,The local police are very understanding, they encourage these quick blast,s up the Dottingerhohe straight,I remember one occaision when my heart went into my mouth, could,nt get fuel at the circuit so went out and over to the other side of the road, only for two motorcycle cops to be having a coffee at the fuel station! Too late ,I thought as they wandered over to have a look around the car, after a very pleassent laugh and chat, they asked if I was going onto the Nordschlieffe,I said I would like to but I did,nt have a trailer, only to be told "You are not in England Now"!Have fun.

There is a strict "no race car" policy at the Nordschleife for normal track days, but quite often somebody manages to get a few laps in with a proper racing car.
The police are the funniest, they are chasing people (trackday racers) down who turn up with semi racing cars, even if they only get near the track. If they haven't got the proper paperwork for every modification, they are in real trouble. And it wouldn't be the first car to be impounded on the spot.
And real racers are often left alone when out with their race cars.

Unlike the British Police Force, I like German Police Officers!

Am I missing something? - I thought a drive round the Nordschleife was compulsory if you were there! .

Just possibly!.It,s the fact that you can drive out of the GP circuit, onto the public road and upto the Nordschlieffe entrance,WITH THE LOCAL POLICE WATCHING.They dont mind as long as its a full blown race car!

I realise that Terence The police are obviously like my counterparts at the Nurbrgring and have a sense of proportion about these things!

I don't! Either of them to be honest. Nor the French.
Although I flew past a French police car a while back doing a bit more than the allowed 130 kph. They didn't react.

About the Ring driving: I don't do it, there are so many people driving there.

We were there last weekend, supporting some mad, fast German Championship. The sun shone all day Friday and Saturday, and it was really warm when we left at 1:00pm. Glorious dry tarmac, even at 0800, terrific race, what more could a chap ask for?

(Except an engine that'll last more than half-a-lap. To paraphrase Zef: Reliability we had, found more power, now all we need is reliability!)
