You might want to rethink that statement; think Mustang...

What's to stop a common platform that accepts front, rear and AWD being a Taurus, Mustang or Falcon?

A platform really has to be FWD/AWD or RWD, you can't elegantly do both.

Most FWD/AWD applications are transverse, most RWD are longitudinal.

You'd say more than likely the One Ford policy is going to mean the Falcon is a re-skin of the Taurus, available in FWD or AWD.

Dale Ford Collapses

Now this dealer is significant for a couple of reasons... it used to be the Jack Brabham Ford dealership out at Bankstown... and is/was one of the largest suppliers of fully kitted out new Falcon taxis to the Sydney market...

While the sale of new cars isnt actually a money spinner for a dealership, the accompanying service & parts businesses generate most of the profit in the business.

Conventional wisdom suggests that if new cars arent going out the door, then they arent able to be brought back to that dealer to be serviced.. and therefore profitability & cashflow are potentially compromised...

Dealerships also have floorplan financing to maintain, where cars are transferred onto the books of the dealer, from the carmaker, (sometimes before possession is actually taken... and sometimes the carmaker deposits cars in the dealer's responsibility without them actually ordering them... ) and interest charges start percolating on the car.

There are a number of dealerships around with cars in the 90+ days holding range, meaning roughly, that 1% per month of cost is added to each car every 30 days or so it is on the floorplan books.

Some finance company's floorplans can also force dealerships to pay out cars of this age range, kicking them off that financing platform, moving into inventory. Now if there are too many of these things on the books... eventually a car dealership can run themselves dry of cash...

Where do the cabbies go for their new blue oval moneymaker?

It seems ironic that with all the talk in this thread about speculation of Ford dropping the Falcon that it should be Holden that is first to dump the Commodore!

Huh? Did you read the various articles put out today announcing the govt assistance for Holden?

They're not dumping the Commodore at all (at this stage anyway) and are hinting at a stronger future for it as a platform.

Yes I did, including this one where Mike Devereux is reported here that he has told the government that the Commodore is dead: http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...2579C9001A228E
