The damage to the Pug. is pretty bad. Hope they can put the car back together before the race. A source at Road Atlanta said the car is totaled and they might be withdrawing from the race.

I can't see the car being totaled, the damage doesn't look that bad (unless the tub was penetrated). Only visible damage are both left side corners, the splitter and the wing (and even the left rear corner doesn't look that bad). The question is do they have enough spare parts?

I begin to feel sorry for that team. Obviously the fastest car, but in this rate they will run out of 2008 spec tubs.. Not a good way for Pedro to keep that seat.. |

What is it with Peugeot? They always seem to be destroying their cars lately.

Hmmm you have got to wonder if the inherent 'twitchyness' of the Pug is adding to the problem - from all the in-car shots the Pug does appear to be much harder to drive on the limit than the Audi for example? So when something unexpected happens, such as a run in with a mobile chicane Intersport , the drivers have a harder time controlling the car than perhaps they should ?

The thought has definitely crossed my mind. Then again, Audi has had a few crashes this year too.

I just read the news on Pug on DSC and here I find Hugewally is way ahead of me!
Good stuff for them, bad stuff for Mazda. Clearly not enough spares in the BK camp yet. |

a FEW notes from a friend of Mine on another forum:
12:48 PM 28/sept/08 "This just in! Just heard over the radio the Peugeot 908 is rolling down pit road. Great to see it back in less than 24 hours of being pretty much destroyed. They were working all thru the night & they still have till 5 pm today to make sure all is well and then take a break till wed. On another note, they are running pretty hard out here considering this is ONLY a practice. The Audi's decided to only test today and they already pulled 1 from the gravel trap in 10A. The #66 Panasonic car of De Farren lost it this morning and caught the outside concrete wall at the top of the hill in 2-3. Car didn't look too bad though. The #8 Mazda BK P2 car lost it as well going under the bridge to 12 and went to the outside concrete wall pretty good. BK is running their new closed cockpit here and it looks pretty cool. I'll get pictures posted later of that and some others. I have been roaming around from turn to turn getting shots and watching. I do have to say, I wish I had the Audi brakes on my T1 car. You guys should see/hear where they are braking coming into 10A. I stood there drooling and watched him for 5 laps or so and everytime he hit the brakes at the 100 foot mark. Now I don't know the exact speed but I bet they are close to 185 MPH give or take a few. That just makes me sick. A few others have been going off here and there too but no contact. Ok back to work, I think I'll head back to the esses. Seems to be a good spot to watch. Till later, Aaron" |
