SALOON CARS 2011

Well its that time of the year again folks - new thread!

2010 Australian Series has been run and won (congratulations Tim Rowse) and the 2011 calendar has been released officially (finally, no thanks to V8SC for making us sit on it for so long!).

2011 Australian Saloon Car Series Calendar
Rnd 1 (Wakefield Park) - April 2/3 featuring the "TASCCO 250 Classic"
Rnd 2 (Winton Raceway) - June 25/26
Rnd 3 (Eastern Creek) - July 16/17
Rnd 4 (Sandown) - August 13/14
Rnd 5 (Morgan Park) - September 24/25
Rnd 6 (Phillip Island) - November 5/6

This year has been a very successful year for Saloon Cars, with better than average grids all year, lots of different race winners, and a new series winner.

We are all very excited about what 2011 holds for our category: fresh concepts, continued growth, and of course all competitors are looking forward to another year of "door handle to door handle" racing

BRING IT ON!

Check out our website for further details: salooncars.net.au

A new "hallmark event" for Saloon Cars in 2011...

Flyer for Round 1 of the 2011 Australian Saloon Car Series

Also, stay tuned for details of another new concept to be announced later in the year...the National Challenge!

First time since 2006

In 2006 WP played host to the opening round of the Australian Saloon Car Championship, and also the first round that AU Falcons and VT Commodores joined the EA Falcons and VN Commodores on the grid.

John Goodacre won the round in a VN Commodore, from Kris Walton (AU) and Paul Fiore (VN)

And too lazy to check the saloon website, to see the schedule page has the lap record listed there for WP!! :P

Also - FYI - the dates have been changed already !!!

Just for Morgan Park and Sandown. I got an email about it yesterday. Updating the saloon website with new details now.

Bit of Trivia...

The VN John (SA) won the round in, was sold to Simon Tabinor (Vic), then sold to Tony McKenzie (SA).

Tony just won the Vic State EA / VN Championship this year in that car.
Simon won the Vic State Championship last year in his VT, and came 2nd this year in the National Series.

So that car seems to be a lucky car.

The cars are a bit out of date, surely you'd expect that by 2011 they would be able to upgrade from AU's to BA's.

When will saloon cars be able to update to later models? AUs and VTs are a bit ancient.

That's the idea.

Cheap to buy,
cheap to build,
Cheap to fix when broken or crashed (in theory anyway).

There are other classes out there for newer cars.

I think BA/BF Falcons and VY/VZ commodores would have similar costs.

How about the cost of upgrading from a AU/VT? This isn't big budget racing, the cars and money has to come from somewhere.
