Slowcoach
See our regs on www.bmwrdc.com We've been using them for five or six years now and they have had the desired effect. If it's a one off, there isn't much done, but consistentoffenders have been prevented from racing for a race or two. This is the best action to deter the guys with more money than talent. As you will see, we have our own driving standards advisors. This was to get over the problems higlighted above when too many times the relevant official didn't see the incident. I don't agree that it should all fall on the injured party to complain. If our dsa's spot an infringement, are alerted to one by a driver, or by use of in and out of car cameras, they work with the race officials, call the drivers together and determine whether a penalty is required. After an initial moan or three, the system was accepted by the competitors and we can all feel comfortable racing in close company, knowing that the type of incident in Tim's uncle's video would not go unpunished. Thanks for the clarification on reporting Chiggers and Stephen. Pretty much useless when there are only a few observers then? Didn't realise that you could be locked up. How do we achieve that? Holds hand up (sort of) - I was the observer on Post 2, now, since we had a waved yellow out, I was concentrating more on what was directly in front of me for bad boys passing under yellow. Falcemob's uncle's Escort caught my eye as it squirreled along the top straight past the start line, looking as if it had been pushed into the pit wall by the red Sierra. But, looking like it had been hit is not the same as seeing it hit - can't report a strong suspicion - sorry. I discussed it with my Blue flag marshal and he could'nt give me a convincing answer. Combine that with the fact that the incident happened at Post 1 and I really had nothing concrete to report. Believe me, if I had seen it, the report would have gone in. edited to say I can't/have'nt see the vid either Last edited by Bodysnatcher; 28 May 2004 at 19:05. |

and uncle E says that the BMW looks like it may be moving over to block the Sierra. For anyone who can't view the video you may need divex codecs *spelling, I will find out where to get them. Eric will be on here one day but has spent most of the week repairing the damage. Last edited by Tim Falce; 28 May 2004 at 19:28. |

Is the post 1 Observer on the forum perchance? John |

Falcemob
Even if the BMW was moving right, (although it looks well past Eric before the hit), IMO sierraman could have eased off the gas and avoided the collision. Anyway, interesting points of view over what appeared to me to be an avoidable accident. John |

Can't remember who was on Post 1, seems unlikely that it was another 10/10ther.
Been thinking hard about this one, the collision seemed to me to have occured at the start line - would love to see that video because that would clarify it. I can't actually remember us waving a yellow, because that would mean the incident was between pit lane exit and post 3 (top of paddock hill) which did'nt happen - so it probably was my post with the stationary yellow. That then sounds like it was us on the video and the report could have been down to me. Sorry guys, I'm not equipped with full 360 vision (yet) I can say no more than earlier, I can't report suspicions, no matter how strong they are. |

The first stationary yellow is on the post on the left side of the track by the grandstand just before the start of Paddock bend, I think it is by the gate.
edited: this is exactly opposite the end of the pit exit, post 2 or 3 I think. Last edited by Tim Falce; 28 May 2004 at 21:13. |

Welcome indeed!
It took seeing that footage to finally make sense of all the stories I was told about what happened. |

Well, its been a long week but we finaly made Stowe. My attitude to Brands is we all make mistakes, the latest video I have seen from Prototype(Phil) shows the BMW and the Sierra locked in combat,it was in my opion a racing incident, although I was pretty peed off, second time in as may weeks but this time I did get an apology, did take the sting out of the situation and thanks. It also saved me from being passed by a Citroen BX,how do you make that thing go like that Carrera,my heartfelt congratulations and admiration, hope to see you soon again.
Will get Phil to put the main straight shot on as soon as poss. By the way,I think I got the lap record for class C. Eric |

Eric,
I could tell you were annoyed by a certain expletive. It was funny that you waited until the car had "settled down" before saying it though. All's well that ends well. As somebody once said. |

It didnt show in the clip but the car had'nt settled down,I'm not sure if the expletive was for the initial impact or still the alarm that it would'nt go in the direction that it should!
As said ,all's well that ends well, but let us spare a moment for the driver who paid the highest price at Thruxton, all our sympathys and thoughts for his closest Eric. |

I will post the shot from the grandstand and all the clips on a new thread as it will be easier for others to find
Remember my camera work isn't normally this bad cos I had just been filming the Sierra that lost control seconds before at Paddock hence why I was still on such a wide angle. Phil |

Phil / Eric, do you have any other in-car footage (without contact) that I might be able to use on the club website?
