I love how that reporter writes in a way that assumes Onroak is actual automotive car manufacturer, and that if IMSA didn't allow manufacturers their team wouldn't be welcome.
It also didn't take long for Oak to backtrack from it's "Oak Racing as team ceases" issued only recently |

Maybe they want to shoe-horn all pro drivers into one of their cars, seeing as how MSR still has a pro-am line up and won't run the Ligier as a grandfathered LMP2 after next season.

And who do you suggest will pay for all that? OAK Racing has always been heavily relying on gentlemen drivers to pay the bills, what makes you think a possible new US campaign will be any different?

I am very happy to get to be able to the Daytona 24 in person this year. It will be the best GT grid ever in the USA. It could have been better if not for the stupid manufacturer fee debacle. Still prototype was going to be an after thought but the grid will be bolstered a little by the Ganassi Ford DP (1 or 2) cars. I figure that will be an all NASCAR/IndyCar driver/crew effort. So they will do Daytona only. Also Krohn, ESM, and SMP too.

Thanks for posting. Bummer that MBZ, Aston Martin and McLaren look unlikely to be IMSA eligible due to the IMSA manufacturer support fees.
Still keeping an eye out for an official announcement for Flying Lizard - Audi R8 (or two?). |

Daytona and Sebring will have nice looking grids. I'm interested to see where we are at for the post le Mans races.

Yeah I was thinking that the full season prototype grid looks like 7 cars right now. 4 Corvette DP's, 2 Mazdas, 1 Ligier. Not sure about the DW. I personally would not mind if they exited stage right after Daytona. And bring out the GT car later in the year.

Why do you suppose Ganassi waited until after Pruett went out and got a ride for Daytona to announce his entry(s) when allPruett wants is another 24 win?
Could it be the parting wasn't as huggy as presented? |

It would make for a good story if Pruett could win against Chip and his band of ringers.

I hope this Lexus factory effort will lead to a GTE or DPi run down the line.

I think they'll do better considering they won't have to build a car from scratch like the Jag. Lexus will surely give the team more money and resources then Jaguar ever did. Pruett will be good for the car development also. |

You really think CGR racing will go with 2 Ford DP's at Daytona in addition to the Ford GTs? I can't see. I do forsee them running the usual one off with the #02. Drivers: Larson, McMurray, Kanaan, Dixon. IndyCar guys will run the pit crew I bet. Very formidable indeed. I think they will be favorites to win overall along with the Taylor Corvette. I think the darkhorse in this could be the BR01
The GT classes? I could not even begin to predict who could win that. I bet Porsche won't mess up this year though! I hope that they run a lot faster this go around though. GTLM pole in 2015 was in the 1:43 minute range. |

We're talking about a GT3 car here, it doesn't take ORECA or Penske to run it successfully. It's not like being the Lexus factory team is some windfall, rather it's the only way Toyota could get someone in the US to commit to the car with its awful development record so far and the admission they will be missing much of the season or more. |

I think the "awful development" is blown out of proportion. It did well in VLN in the hands of the farnbacher team. It went from being 20+ seconds off in its first outings to around 3-5 seconds off on an 8 minute lap. The last race it did the fastest lap. It also had a 2nd place finish this season. I think it needs more time into it, but once known its not going to be slow at all.
