Thanks Ollie-nz,

The photos are great, we were a bit busy last weekend and did not get any photos. Keep them coming.

Had a great weekend, just the starter. We do it all again this coming weekend!!

Hi chunterer & Gary,

I do have more photos of other cars and a friend has a few more of Gary's Zakspeed.
I tried to make a new thread in this section I think last night but it wouldn't let me (maybe picture threads need a moderator's approval?)

Anyhow, here's a link to some other photos I took which also has some very nice photos my friend Josh took. (let me know if the link doesn't work)

http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/...howtopic=43259

Cheers, Ollie.

These cars raced in the same series as a car i write & collect history about, the vw kamei golf that i also own a replica of.

Would love to hear about any links you find regarding the Kamei if you come across any during your research to add to my history.

Hi All,

Found this great bit of footage from Kyalami 1980.
Ian Scheckter in the BMW and Sarel van der Merwe in an Ex Zakspeed Escort Gp5 fitted with a Cosworth GAA.
Worth a look.

Hi All,

It's been a while since I've had info for here, nut last week i got a few photos pass too me of the Zakspeed from it's time in Asia.

The photos attached were taken at Johor Curcuit, not sure of the date.
You can see that the BD has been replaced for a Rotary, this was done by Vazmaz a local Rotary workshop I was told.

LHD steering mounts and ZF are visible in a couple of shots.

Cheers,

Gary.

bloody wankels! how could you do that to such a historic car? vazmaz should be shot, hung, drawn and quartered (and not necessarily in that order!) a lot of satisfaction I imagine to bring it back from the brink of death Gary?

Hi, I found this thread through looking for Zakspeed mirrors.

Do you think this could have been what they used?

Hi 930tech,

Yes I think there is every chance these are what were used. Certainly on the Gp 2 cars, not completely sure on the Gp 5 cars, look good for the early 77 cars but not correct for the later 77 and early 78 cars.

Cheers.

Excuse me, does anybody know which magazine it is? The second one with Langheck version is Auto-Motor-und-Sport 20 september 1977. And which is this with English text? Please, PM me if You have any info. I just gather all the info about DRM, have a book about Zakspeed team, but there're no photos and any info about Langheck - only some mention that it was build for Hockenheim but never raced (as far as I can understand). There's a small photo of even more modificated Langheck with rear wheels covered by side panels - all looking as a steemliner for a record barking attempt - it's in Japanese "Racing On" №428. But no info about that modification, just some data about engine capacity comparing with BMW 2002.

The article was from Cars and Car Conversions September 1977

I'm very interested in your post as I plan to build and race a replica of the Gp5 Zakspeed Escort once we have finished building the current project

I dont really want to be biased or knock anyone here. But down here in Malaysia racecars are just racecars. Most tuning shops or racing teams arent really that well connected or have enough funds to source everything thats period correct or the "right" engine. Jeffry Vaz of Vazmaz runs an engineering shop which also builds rotaries, its just normal for a rotary shop to swap in a rotary into a racecar they race
