Was the problem really the race format, or was it the current spec of the cars?

We shouldn't have to rely on pitstops to make a race interesting or exciting

Not happy to see what happened to Dirk Klynesmith today. That type of behaviour was uncalled for. Hopefully the culprit ends up being held accountable for his actions.

Saw the video.

Very un-called for.

Allegedly the person in question, is the president of the Auckland Car Club.

Approximately 30 of highlights from race 3 on Channel 10 was pretty poor, it is not like race 4 was that action-packed

the flogger who attacked Dirk Klynsmith was completely out of order and hopefully gets dealt with accordingly.

I only saw the highlights programs on 10 so it's a bit hard to really draw conclusions on the quality of racing. From what I saw there was plenty of good racing going on through the field - just not for the lead of the race. It happens.

As always, Pukey delivers plenty of movement and action in the way the cars work around the track. Found it really interesting that Mr Dutton said on RPM that they were lapping faster this year on the hard compound than they did last year on the soft compound. Clearly plenty of damper and chassis work has been done to achieve that.

I am appalled at what has happened to Dirk in NZ. This is not how we kiwis like to present ourselves.

Story in the NZ Herald here... http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news...ectid=11743503 (complete with vid of what this terrible person did to Dirk). I hope the NZ Police charge him with assault for this.

Does anyone know what caused the incident in the first place?

Anyway, back on topic. I was glad we didn't bother going to Puke this year as that was the most boring VASC meeting I think I have ever seen. Every single one of the supports was more interesting. I have been told by a competitor in the NZV8 Ute series that there was even a price hike this year. So people are paying a couple hundred $$ for that rubbish.

Sure it was great that SVG won the JR trophy but the racing was just a procession. My mate told me that although is looked like there were plenty of viewers, he saw people streaming out of the gate and going home.

If VASC want to make the NZ round worthwhile then they better up their game and either a) do 2 rounds back to back in NZ (this is a no brainer to begin with), and/or b) spice up the format.

Otherwise people just wont bother going to 'the best show on earth'.

I hope Dirk is feeling ok and not concerned about returning to NZ. The munter in the video looked like a school boy bully picking on smaller kids....just disgraceful.

Having 3 major international race meetings in 3 weeks in NZ cant have helped the crowds at any one of those events...

Not good planning really, imagine there is some crowd that choose one or the other (i know i would have had to choose if in the same position)

Is it any worse than the scheduling of a Gold Coast event and a Victorian event on the same weekend?

Strange that Warburton was ok with one but makes media noise about another

Of course it is worse - total population of New Zealand considerably less than either Victoria or Queensland.

Didn't realise that Mr Warburton was making media noise but sometimes that is how scheduling lines up. It's happened many times before, even motor sport events from different disciplines on the same weekend in the same city - like national drag racing at Calder on moto gp weekend or same weekend as Winton, national motocross rounds on same weekend as VASA rounds etc. It happens, there are only so many dates in the calendar and plenty of events and series to go round.

So a direct clash where people are forced to choose between is worse than 3 successive race meetings?

I know what I would prefer.

Happy to accept that conflicts occur however Mr you can't have it both ways - criticize one clash and turn a blind eye to the other.

Surely you can see that two event 2000 kms away that draw totally different motorsports audiences and different populations QLD and Vic is much different to two events in NZ that draw from the same population and similar Motorsport audiences

However its not a big deal, it happens in both cases

To those who keep banging on about a second race in NZ, it has been studied again and again and the numbers just do not stack up, if you run 2 events you'll basically halve the attendance at each. It just isn't viable.

Yep - that is entirely the issue. Plus any event on the South Island (with its much lower population) would most likely not get the patronage for the event to be viable.

You're both right - TQ might bankroll things for a short time but he is smart enough to not add his name to those who have made a small fortune out of motorsport - by starting with a large fortune.

No arguments. But once you are wealthy you can invest in your hobbies and happily make a loss

Thus the reason he can run two gt3 rounds in close succession contrary to your post a few posts back
