ClioCup 2003
So whos in the clios this year?
who do you think is going to follow in the footsteps of jim jnr, Danny Buxton and Paul Rivett?!! personally i think its the time of the privateers. Julian Griffin , nows hes had a season to get used to the car, expanded to a two car team and got the championship winning car from firstair... And with Xcel running up to 6 cars how can they efficiently run all of them. I hope Scancombe is back. hopefully TCR wont have as many broken cars to repair and boulivard too. |

Team Griffin Racing Aiming High in 2003
Leicestershire-based ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup outfit Team Griffin Racing is looking forward to the 2003 season in confident mood after marked improvements in performance during recent winter preparations. TGR is looking on this year as its first real competitive crack at the championship and the team has good reason to be hopeful following some impressive results achieved during November’s ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Winter Championship. Team-owner Julian Griffin (Fleckney), an Operations Manager by trade, endured a difficult first season in Clios after switching from the Ford Fiesta Championship where he was named 2001 driver of the year. But after a productive winter campaign where he raced the ex-Paul Rivett 2002 championship winning car for the first time, Griffin is confident he can build on the fourth place he achieved at Donington Park and begin to challenge for podium finishes. Paul Maguire (Salisbury) will continue with TGR this year after settling in very well during the 2002 Winter Championship. The 28-year old, who will count 2003 as his first full-season in the ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup, took a tremendous podium during the first race of the winter series - only his third ever competitive Clio drive. Looking ahead to the new championship, Griffin said: “We’re very much looking forward to the season and I’m confident that both cars will be competitive from the off. Winter testing so far has gone very well and I’m sure that our new set-up will enable us to score some impressive results in 2003. “Last season was all about getting adjusted to racing the Clio and getting used to the way the car handled but, as was seen in the recent Winter Championship, we’re improving all the time. Paul achieved an excellent result with his podium finish at Donington Park and we’re hoping for more of the same during the new season.” |

Nick Adcock an ex VW Cup Beetle RSi racer with an ex Atlanta Clio which is being rebuilt and run by TCR
also According to last week's issue of Speedway Star magazine, double Mini champion Ian Curley is moving to the Clio Cup this year. Ian has also been dabbling on grasstrack motorbikes hence the interest from said magazine. |

According to Autosport, Mark Fish will be returning with at least a 2 car team and Tim Sugden will only run the Scholarship winner this season. He's sold the other 2 cars to the SpeedEquip team which is running Ian Curley and Rob Cullum.
