Model cars
Are the model cars of the v8supertaxis over priced.I have seen price range from $99 to $165 for 1.18 scale car, are we thefans being ripped off and are we also being ripped off in merchandise as I have notice that the FORD clothing is dearer that Holden clothing and I am a FROD man.
What is your opion.

TSR,
Where can I buy a FROD Shirt, that would be collectable!! I am into Camaro's and when a 1/43 can cost up to $120 or a GMP 1/18 over 200 ... in many cases it is the limited runs that dictate the price. Moffat Coke Mustangs are already bringing $400+ without packaging so it is the collectability that often sets the launch price. PS. The Jane Camaro is soon to be available and they are talking sub $200 for those, considering that this was not just a new colour scheme on existing tooling but built from scratch, that is where I reckon you may have a legitimate grumble. |

Sorry about the mis spelt FORD Camaroz, But I not long ago swa a green eyed 1/18 FALCON for $195. that is a bit rough.

I bought a 1:43 of the Pirtek and Caltex cars from a shop in Doncaster last week while in Melbourne for the Sandown race, $39.99 a pop....
Some stores like to charge like wounded bulls.... I have found Lions Den to be reasonable on pricing, now if only they would stock a range beyond the 3 Symbol teams.... |

Ok fair point you are all saying, but today I saw both a F1 04 Jaguar & Ferrai in 1.18 for $99, but I know that they will be sold for alot more.
I know that they F1 but V8 are going down the same path. |

The championship winning driver usually costs a bit more especially in F1 models. In V8 Supercar, the prices are pretty equal between the two team cars.

TSR;I've spent the last two years consulting to the management and staff at 'Southern Model Supplies/Classic Carlectables' of South Aust/Adelaide, the cost of 'tooling for the Bob Jane Camaro is in excess of $400000.00aud,not including staff time (4 days in my shop measuring/digital photographing/drawing etc/two staff/accomodation?travel/rental car),so possibly re-think your "***** !!!!!!!!!!!!!welcome to the real world !

Most of the cars have a recomended retail price as new.
It varies from the Classic-Autoart brands and also the earlier Bathurst models. |

The Brock A9X car hasnt been sold yet in 1/18 scale, however i know of a few code 3 cars that have been produced. They probably used the 77 Bill Patterson car as the doner car

Camaroz, i have a model of a 67 Camaro SS, silver in colour. I've been told it is pretty rare.

The Jaguar and Ferrari you mention are Hot Wheels, is that right? That's why they're cheap - they make tens of thousands of them which means they achieve a much better economy of scale (the cost per unit decreases, the more you make). It's the research and development that sucks up the dollars. The Australian die-cast market is very robust and competitive. Both Biante and Classics make super products. I believe they are too cheap, given the small volumes (but I'm not complaining either, being a pretty keen collector). The Brock A9X mentioned could be the new Biante one that's yet to be released. Speculators sometimes do that - sell something ahead of the time they get it. It's like the futures market. If it's too expensive for you - don't buy it. The $99 cars are likely ones that are unpopular and are being remaindered. I have a 1/43 Mark Webber Minardi - paid under $50 - wonder what it's worth now? Bruce Moxon |
