World Rallycross R4 - Mettet, Belgium
Looking forward to this event. For the last few years we've bought a weekend ticket but only gone for the day (Sunday only).
This year we can only do the same but am thinking of risking it and buying a ticket on the gate on the Sunday morning (rather than a full weekend ticket). Anyone got any experience of this? Don't want to drive all the way to Belgium and not being able to get in! Advice appreciated |

Long way to go for 1 day. Well be there both days. Sad the ERX isn't there but a full support of other classes should make it interesting.

No ERX
That makes the decision very easy then. |

Yup. The biggest event on the calendar will be Loheac. WRX, ERX, s1600 and RX2. Could be as many as 110 entries!
But Mettet should be good and if RX2 will have the level of interest that people are suggesting , I think we could see as many as 90 cars there. Which would be very nice (conservative estimate of 72 races over the weekend). |

I meeting with tens of thousands of peopel attending is not really my bag, and travelling alone is not much fun at events like that.
Oh for the rallycross trust and coach trips |

IMO Belgium will be a waste for people in Great Britain. Same as Lydden is for European, lots of travel costs for half the Super Cars. Much better going to Höljes or Loheac.

Being 5mins away from eurotunnel it's quicker for me to get to Mettet than Pembrey or Croft. Would love to do Loheac again, not sure the wife will allow it a week before baby due date tho. Maybe next year, when Silverstone and Mettet will be similar travel times!

Duval and a Belgian round seems to go hand in hand.

So let´s hope other drivers don´t get disqualified again to make Duval taking part in the final...

Well, it looks just like it if you squint a little...
I noticed lap times seem to continue tumbling, so it almost looks like the factory supported cars are getting faster and faster. I wonder how long private teams will be able to keep up. |

They do not need to keep up, they are not even a part of the same championship, never race together and have their own championship.
This is what IMG wanted, private separate from factory. Hence why they are hardly shown on the tv show and their highlights are just dumped on youtube as are the S1600 and rwd races. |

We're a funny old bunch on here. Moan that the support series don't get any attention then say we won't go to events as only 25 supercars. I'd probably rather go to an event woth25 cars in each category than the even in Spain with 50 supercars and 10 touring cars. Rallycross is all about the diversity and precisely the reason to attend is that you only really enjoy that diversity and see all the action if you're track side.
I welcome the advances. Success has never been cheap, let's see these cars flat put, more reliable, better drivers, etc. But let's keep the support series there for the smaller teams. |

I think the big issue is this.
Why can we not have everything at every round? It is a fairly simple idea, keeps everyone happy. IMG are at the stage now where they can drop or ask venues to do just about anything, so if there are venues that cannot accommodate that many cars, then drop them, they soon drop tracks for little else. What they don't want you to know is that the tracks are dropped because the people running them have paid up front and lost money as crowds have been poor and their costs have been huge. So they want to keep the venues that actively want to stage events and can either soak up the cost or are making money. Franciacorta, Argentina, Turkey all gone after only a few events. Of course they could simply drop the hosting fees and make iot easier for tracks to host the meetings in the first place... |

I think the guys in ERX and S1600 prefer fewer rounds actually. Before IMG came there weren't that many doing the entire season in Supercars and now it has doubled. S1600 is still popular too in entries, could be more even. Less rounds means more permanent entries. Unfortunately touring cars have died out.
However, the rising costs might play a roll though since it kills off the interest of doing more rounds, it is too expensive. In RallyX for example there were 18 Supercars at the opening round and some of the drivers have opted for this series instead of ERX. |

To be honest, I think that for a World Series the WRX should have much more rounds that the current offering of 12 rounds. F1 and WRC have more and are much more spread around the globe. Put 16 rounds in the WRX, 8 of them outside Europe and put the remaining 8 together with ERX and then were talking!

We all know why that is, and that is that IMG have somehow managed to secure world championship status, despite the damn series only going to Canada and the odd round elsewhere outside Europe, they even called Turkey outside when it is practically Europe.
Rallycross is a European sport and always will be, IMG are never going to change that despite their best efforts. It is big in Scandinavia and France only, elsewhere it is a small, one off event. You could easily fit in the other classes if you made the championship registration fees far cheaper, they are horrendous by all accounts. And there is no reason at all why you could not make ERX permanent for each European round at least. They can't do that yet as they don't have enough rounds in the rest of the world, so in reality it is still a European series in everything but name. If you have more rounds cost will get bigger and bigger and rounds will come and go as did previous ones coz IMG charge too much to host and venues cannot make ANY money out of hosting rallycross in new countries because they then have to spend thousands on PR to make people aware of it. It is a tough balancing act, and the money being spent at the moment is worrying, as any series that allows massive spending inevitably alienates everyone eventually, ITC, Group C, WSPC, Le Mans P1, BTCC Supertouring. |

18 RX2 entries in Mettet, including Dan Rooke. Given that number I'm hopeful that RX2 could be a good watch this year.

Solid entry all round. 24 supercar, 30 s1600, 18 RX2 and 15 touring cars. 87 in total (though inevitably there will be a few drop outs). Still, hope for 16-18 races per heat (depends on drop outs), so lots of action!

German magazine "Motorsport-Aktuell" reports that IMG is talking to five more venues (no countries were mentioned) right now. There will be a 13th round next year, but they made clear that they don't want to have more rounds than 13.

They can't do much more than that, as the costs for the teams will be horrendous, they are already.
I have little doubt they will get interest, WRX is seen as a growing sport and that is an easy sell ti venues. Until they have to charge 30 quid a ticket ina country with no rallycross interest and only 8000 people turn up and they have paid a massive hosting fee. The maths only add up in a few countries or if you have local government backing. It is the Bernie way. So get ready for rounds in Russian countries, the middle east, and probably south America and asia. For a couple of years each at least!! |

I just hope one of the venues isn't Tierp, a Swedish racing circuit that wants to hop on the bandwagon of IMG with a "world class rallycross track" ...
Tierp is a venue I don't have much like for and if they were to replace Höljes then they will have killed off a little bit more of Swedish and international rallycross. |
