I don't expect anything in terms of goodies or remuneration. I do appreciate anything I get. At the club level there does seem to be better incentives offerred, which is nice and it's also the level at which I'm happier to donate my services completely free. Hence I feel disposed towards a number of clubs doubly, since I enjoy the meeting better and appreciate their consideration.
I'm slightly concerned that some higher level meetings we donate our time in order that quite a lot of people make quite a lot of money yet they don't feel we're worthy of consideration. Indeed, they then treat us as though we were paid servants by failure to support is sportingly (obeying yellow flags, respecting reports and open criticism in public, often incorrect). Again, I don't expect anything, it bothers me that they don't feel they should at least think of us in any way, which is why I'm very supportive of the BTCC team's personal offer of hospitality. Where I get annoyed is when such an offer is scuppered by the circuit's own caterers, especially if their fayre is over-priced and sub-standard in comparison. We allow them to conduct their business and I don't expect them to interfere in ours. If a team or organiser wishes to extend their hospitality, even at modest cost to us, then the circuit should stay out of it frankly. Different if they're selling at a profit to spectators, of course, and I wouldn't expect anybody to be taking business off them in that way. Racing schools I treat as a business. If they want me there they can employ me(!). F1 I treat as contemptuos with the vast sums made by the teams, organisers and especially one individual as well as the significant catering and hospitality put on by said teams. If the best they can offer is a fiver (which probably doesn't cover the increase in price compared with a normal meeting) they can frankly shove it. At the Midland Hill Climbs each venue has decent marshals' facilities and a variety of provision for lunch, drinks and expenses as well as plenty of opportunity to socialise with the competitors, all of which contribute to the reason I spend so much of my season at these events. Not because I want those rewards as such, but because I value the fact that they're offerred and make me feel welcome and valued. |

From Longfield it would have run along the ridge to Fawkham, then rejoined the existing network at Swanley or Farningham Road. This was only going to be feasible if Waterlooo remained as the London terminus. As it is the millions spent on the temporary fixes of the Fawkham spur and Waterloo International have been written off. Will ignore the other comment about Babel Fish (for now) |

Equally O/T: I think it's a shame French tourists no longer arrive at Waterloo.

Hear Hear! I don't expect anything when I turnup at Brands for a day wrestling with the farcical communication system. However, being recognised as part of their team is nice. One thing that really winds me up is being told to treat drivers as "Customers". If I was being paid I would as I'm not I treat them as fellow petrol-heads. That seems to work... ...The free breakfasts from MSVR is very welcome! Thanks! |

Whilst we do not expect 'paying' for what we do,we do it for the genuine love of the sport, why do some circuits get free breakfasts etc. and others, as Oulton park do not even get a free cup of tea at Sign on? Is it a case of the circuits who struggle for marshal's have to give 'freebees' to encourage marshal's to go? 'Food' for thought eh.

At Oulton we use to get a breakfast voucher, which was for a full breakfast. Then it changed and was up to a certain value, £5 iirc. Then it vanished altogether. But I cant remember who subsidised it! Still, its not like Oulton struggle for numbers really either, although it will be interesting to see what happens this season with so many clashes between Oulton and Anglesey.
MSVR meetings do supply a drinks voucher for the end of day and other clubs supply a drink at the bottom of race control after the meeting has finished, so there is still a thanks there! |

MSVR at Brands Hatch used to issue drink vouchers, but after concerns were expressed about people needing to drive some distance home and drink driving, these were changed to breakfast vouchers, which have a higher take-up.
Maybe a word with the local MSVR circuit management will help? |

Must admit, nothing puts a smile on my face after an hour's drive to anywhere to find a decent breakfast is free. Heck, I'm happy with cost price - it doesn't have to cost anyone anything to make me feel welcome.

[QUOTE=numbersix;2834808]Technically, we were losing and then the Prussians turned up and kicked ass. I'm afraid our history books made a bit of a Hollywood of it.
