baldtom should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Lydden hill - Easter British Rallycross

Thought I'd start a thread for this meeting.

Any idea on numbers yet, spose it's too early for an entry list.... I haven't heard..... Have we got the Belgian championship round at this meeting also?? I always enjoy their super nationals.....

It's British / Belgian meeting so it should be good

It looks like there are a few of the absentees from the first British round returning as well (Emery in the Pug for one) so the numbers of British entries should be higher. Set Promotion have got a couple of cars in for Lydden - not sure whether they'll be running in the British or Belgian classes? (I'd guess Belgian as there are more S1600's in the Belgian championship).

I don't do Facebook, so any list you can post here would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

As well as Stuart Emery's Peugeot, Todd Crooks will be there with his supernational MINI, now turbocharged rather than supercharged.

I haven't seen a timetable yet to know what is going on on the two days (Sunday and Easter Monday) but if you're wandering around the paddock and get along to the Retro Rallycross area, do leave yourself a few minutes to look at my rallycross model display. I'm trying to finish off a model of Jos Sterkens' Volvo C30, amongst others, in time for the event.

My display includes some VERY early rallcross cars from the late 1960s, plenty of 6R4s, a variety of cars competing in the 70s and 80s in the UK and Europe and an increasing number of current cars, including the Retro Rallycross cars.

Looking forward to the event and hope to meet some of you guys there.

Cheers, Steve

Just seen the updated list with few new additions, looks like it should be a cracking weekend, lets hope the English weather can surprise for once and be nice and sunny.

Does anyone know what the time table / schedule will look like for the monday?

Just looking on youtube and came across the review from the first round of the Belgian series at Maasmechelen from a few weeks ago and as a bonus it's all english commentary.

Blimey that looked so sparse.

Just looked at the ticket prices and advance are £15 on Sunday and £20 on Monday and £30 for a weekend. So a bit of an increase from last year.

Anybody have any idea of the timetable, and how the meeting is split over the two days?

Not an exact timetable but the following applies;

Sunday practice and racing 10.30 until 4pm
Monday racing from 9am until 6pm

50 Belgian drivers entered.

Increases are likely sadly, they are trying to recoup the money they are shelling out for WRX, most tracks will be doing this that hold a WRX event as the hosting fees are so insane.

£20 is too much for this event. £15 would be fair I think the public will pay £15 but £20 hits a mental barrier with most people. I couldn't bear paying the current owners £20 of my money.

Hehe, a man after my own heart Thunder!

As I say it is more than likely a way of recouping some of the cash they will be paying out for hosting WRX, they don't much else there now all year and hiking the price for basic events is basically a very cheap and ruthless way of making a bit more for their one big event that is costing them tens of thousands in hosting fees to IMG. They will never recoup all of that from that one event, so hike the price for a few more medium size events as a result.

They know they will get some Belgians and Dutch coming and there are people on this forum who would pay 50 quid to go and watch rallycross in a field, so as with most sport these days, it is priced by rich people to pay for events all year rather than to cover the cost of this one event, rather than trying to encourage new people and locals by pricing more competitively.

It is sad and very dispiriting, but most sports that are paying for big deals do it now. Silverstone have been doing it for years. Lydden are using the same model.

Compare it to 90 minutes of football I think £30 for two days racing is pretty good value in this day and age. Was hoping for more Belgian/Euro supercars though.

Not sure you can really compare motorsport with football. Or any other sport, other than perhaps horse racing as that is a day long event.

I don't think the price is phenomenally high, most of it is a problem with the venue not being able to be used as most others are, this should in all honesty only be a one day meeting, and that is part of the sadness with costs, 15 quid for what is basically a practice day is a bit steep. So if you are turning up and doing both you are looking at 35 quid, which is dearer than what you are talking about and is dearer than a race day at BSB, BTCC etc, only world series like WEC, F1, MotoGP are dearer on individual days.

Football is not a comparison, maybe something like a smaller national series is, and in that way this is at the top of the price market, and that is a shame. It is still relatively cheap for sport, but for club motorsport (don't tell me its anything else) it's fairly dear.

Agree Chunder it's essentially a club meeting over 2 days. With the comparison to football would you pay £20 to watch a group of amateurs play on the Hackney Marshes?

I think that might be a stretch too far, an amateur game is not really fair for British rallycross

That series is perhaps on the same level as the Championship or LEague 1 in terms of football, but that is a sport on the up, it is completely established.

Rallycross isnt

I hope that list is not final as it would be a shame not to have Procter there, also Dave Newsham and Jack Thorne is missing as well so hopefully they will be confirmed.

The press release also says that Thorne, Procter and newsham will be there so suspect itd just a dodgy list. Still, almost 120 entries I count... can't wait. Hopefully some sensible amalgamation of classes to ensure full grids

Just seen an advert for Guy Martin Wall of Death live on Easter Monday . So that rules him out of a surprise Lydden entry
