Mini Moto - Anyone done it?

I have always wanted to have a blast on those mini moto bikes on a kart track, sounds like great fun. Has anyone had a go here? I know back in england it had caught on well but here in Perth I cant really find anywhere that does it

I've seen them around occassionally being sold as prizes in competitions. I wonder if Eastern Creek has them...

I got this reply from the Minimoto racing club here in WA

"James,
Thank you for your enquiry. Pocket Rocket Racing are the Western
Australia
distributors for Pocket Bikes. Unfortunately there are no hire places
anywhere where you could just go and have a ride on a pocket bike,
however,
I have a test bike here in Bunbury, you would need to call and arrange
a
date and time for me to meet you at the track.
Racing has been suspended as of March. In a nutshell, last year (2002)
was a
preliminary year at Bunbury City Kart Club and racing was conducted
using
PRR public liability insurance, indemnity forms and closure of the
track
during pocket bike races. This year, because in part of Pocket Bike's
phenominal success and the fact that the bikes were attracting ten FOLD
the
amount of spectators and potential buyers than the karts were, the
Bunbury
City Kart Club now require pocket bikes to be fully insured, i.e public
liability and personal injury. At present the riders are using the
track for
practise and fine tuning their race bikes, sometimes six or seven
practise
at one time, but don't race.
An association has been formed in W.A called the "Formula Pocket
Moto
Association of W.A" to incorporate the racing of pocket bikes, scooters
and
sports lights. We have submitted our constitution to Motorcycling
Australia
WA and are half way through the process of being affiliated with them.
This
will give us the appropriate insurance cover to satisfy Bunbury City
Kart
Club as well as open up two superb racing circuits in Perth, one being
the
kart track at Cockburn, the other being Barbagello I believe.

Bikes are
still dirt cheap in Australia; in America and England the same bike
will
cost you around 40% more, however prices of bikes here are slowly
rising and
demand for bikes is increasing.
For further details, please do not hesitate to e-mail, or alternatively
call
Pocket Rocket Racing on (08) 9796 1063.

Sounds like it's taking off already!

I am off next week to Bunbury for a test ride on these babies

There was actually an article about those things in a local newspaper here not to long ago. they look like a blast. I saw a picture of one gentleman who literally enveloped the whole darn thing!

I had a go on one at the weekend on a kart track and can honestly say that it is HUGE FUN. They handle great and the 2 stroke engines really go. I did almost fall off at first coming out the pits as i couldnt get my legs up onto the pegs but once you get used to the size it is just like a normal bike. I hadn't ridden a road bike for 2 years either so was a bit rusty but all the same elements are there plus you can lean so much with confidence. I am saving up for one
