British press reaction to the Imola GP

Most of the press comments I have seen have been both admiring and sympathetic of the Schumi brothers with what seems to be the unpleasant exception of Simon Barnes on the front page of the Times.

He refers to the podium ceremony as "By Formula One standards it was almost dignified" then goes on to say ".. the Schumacher brothers showed a ruthless concern for business. Certainly they put personal ambition before a public show of mourning. Probably they will always regret that they weren't there for their mother's final moments. But who brought them up? Who taught them that victory and ambition take precedence over the luxury of personal feelings?"

I have read this several times and can only see it as an insult to the Schumachers - who I'm sure are more than used to coping with adverse press comment about themselves - but also a gibe at their late mother which seems unforgiveable.

I also saw this comment from the sun
Quote:
WHAT amazing characters the Schumacher brothers are.

Hours after their mother died, Michael and Ralf race their Formula One cars.

Amazingly, Michael wins.

Are the Schumachers ice-cool professionals ...

Or just cold robots?

I am just sorry that a British paper which probably prides itself on not being a tabloid had to say something so offensive.

Most of the newspapers in the UK are rags and the Times has been going down hill for years. Everybody knows this.

Not defending the newspapers at all, but i did find it odd that both brothers were so vocal about not racing in America after 9/11 and just got on with the job without a word after their mothers sad parting.

The Sun and The Times are both garbage, the Sun specialises in lowest-common-denominator drivel, mostly about dumb blonde celebrities, and with a general xenophobic, sexist, homophobic, right-wing air. The Times isn't quite as bad, as their writers can at least string two sentances together and understand more advanced issues, but its basically still right-wing propoganda. It's sad that so many people read and believe that stuff.

The Daily Telegraph is read by people who think it is.
Sun readers don't care who runs the country as long as she's got big tits.
Or so ive heard. The brit tabloids/papers really ripped into the Schumacher brothers. One of them even had an interview with their grandmother who had nothing good to say about anything.

I can't believe this...do the press have nothing better to report?

The schumacher brothers just got on with thier job...a trait that many other mourners show...they just want to put the tragedy out of their heads.

These guys should just be left alone.

Most of the scum bags in the world belong to the British press. Their opinion matters nothing to me, and to most people for that matter.

Just one of the side effects of 'personal freedom' in western countries that stupid scum can write newspapers.
Actually what really scares me is that several million brits WANT to read it!!

UK's papers suuccck! I've read a couple of their papers a couple seasons back and had stopped doing that since. They are nothing better than those Taiwan gossip papers.

They just want to blast the Schumachers. Nothing the brothers can do will be right...

Well teh output of the British press seems to be ten times that of the rest of the world put together so it's no wonder there's going to be some rubbish amongst it. Some people still can't round the fact that while the events of 11th September 1002 were very public, what the Schumacher brothers went through was a very private thing. I don't know about you, but I certainly wouldn't like to discuss something like that with the world's press.
