So if DC gets the seat (which looks rather likely) do you think he'll be on a contract with an option to drop him for Liuzzi at half-season if he doesn't impress, like the contract klien is tipped to have?
Or will he be indespensible? |

I don't think Coulthard would take such a deal.
He will be seen as the team's lead driver - and I think he'll deliver. |

I just can't see him doing that KB, sorry.
I get the feeling he'll just carry on in his slumber. Klien is also very quick and i feel could easily beat DC. DC seems to have a psychological block as regards his racing of late and he needs to rid himself of it. If he put in more drives like Monaco 2002 he'd be a hell of a driver! |

But to be in a team who need him, and want to call on his experience of how a front running team and car should be, and knowing the focus is on him, that's the sort of thing that lifts people's heads and is an intangible benefit.

I can't see Klien regularly beating DC, should that be the line-up. Outqualifying him yes, but not on race pace. Liuzzi, on the other hand....

Having no experience in the car, he beat both Klein and Liuzzi on two consequtive days (yesterday and today). If he DOESN'T get the job, the RBR principal should be sacked.

Agreed, maybe the odd qualifying, but to beat him easily over a whole season? I don't think so! |

On the flip side, assuming that he will be driving for Red Bull in 2005, his realization that he has little chance of even sniffing at a podium is another barrier. One that may prove even more difficult for him to bear at this point in his career. His patience and character will be tested, no doubt. |

Important to add perception and expectation.
McLaren expect to win every race and challenge for every title, as Ron Dennis famously said ' 2nd place is 1st loser', possibly they have had to temper some of the expectation in recent years, but none the less they will remain high. At Red Bull they will expect much less, they will be overjoyed at scoring points, a podium would feel like a win. To attract a driver with the professionalism and experience of DC will be a boost to Red BUll and they will convey that back to DC who will assume a leadership role. It could be the making of him, we could see some of DC's best performances. As I've said before, you can't under estimate what goes on in a drivers head in relation to his performance. Look at Trulli last year, as soon as Flav didn't renew his contract his head went down and he went to (relative) pieces. DC must have felt similarly unwanted this year. It would be a good move from RBR to sign DC, from both sides. |

Well the fact that DC has out performed Klien by 0.6s on his first day in the car must say something, especially when you consider that Klien has had a whole year to get to grips with the car. 0.6 x 70 laps is about 40 seconds over a race distance
More than the distance between Schu and Rubens |

I think DC's proved hismelf to be the right choice now. He should be able to beat Klien by more than Webber could over the season, especially if one-lap qualifying goes.

They must need somebody with experience who can lead them on set up. Too bad for Liuzzi though.

So Coulthard/Klien, with an option to replace Klien with Liuzzi mid-season, is looking like the most likley outcome?

Coulthard and Klien, with Liuzzi as Friday tester is what it will be, I'm fairly sure.

It's a very interesting turnaround from a few weeks ago when Dieter seemed to categorically rule Coulthard out. |

I should also add that F1racing.net has an article that Antony Davidson was seriously considered by Red Bull Racing but that BAR-Honda blocked him going: see here

They aren't.
He signed a contract to be their test driver and that is what he's doing. He will more than likely be racing for BAR - or elsewhere - in 2006. |
