Dual exhaust though, no reason for it if it's an inline-4.

Even then, they may be forced to do it for another reason - after all, the GT500 car has the single exhaust. But the GT500 is built around a purpose-designed racing chassis. The GT3 cars actually has to be built from a road car chassis, and this may have forced them into changing the exhaust in a way where splitting the pipes was the most efficient solution all around, not just for exhaust cooling. That said... Nobody's actually verified with any certainty that the car in the picture has the 4-cyl engine: "No technical details of the new car were released but sources continue to suggest that the car is likely powered by a derivative of the 2 litre turbo four cylinder engine currently utilised in the GT500 version of the GT-R." If the assumptions that it will use it are true, the test car still might not yet be equipped with it for any number of reasons. |

So, a GT3 car, in which class the car's engine should be based around a street car engine and left relatively unmodified, might now be using a completely race-bred four cylinder engine?
I don't like this. |

Fully agree... a manufacturer can't seriously consider the idea to use a bespoke engine for a road derivated GT3 engine swap from model to another model of the same manufacturer is ok... but what now? super gt engine for next nissan gt-r, will next amg-mercedes gt3 use F1 V6? |

That's a good point. It might make costs escalate too much. But then again, we still don't fully know the details as it could still be using the same old V6..

According to Bob Suzuki-blog
It seem that GT4 car will replace GT3 car in Nurburgring 24 hours endurance race for the few years later. @Japanese Samurai Can you please help me to translate this article as shown as below in the bold text???

Sumitomo rubber (Falken) will hold backup event for Nur-24h race on May 28.
Seiji Ara participate in the talk show of the event. False information leaking The unveil was planned to be carried out gorgeously at the venue of the Nur-24 festival. However, BMW France leaked it before the official unveil. Yes, this is the latest M4GT4. This is a class one class down from GT3 we are competing. This is a racing car more closer to production car. Now the GT3 category become too high level, so popularity is concentrating in this GT4 category in Europe. Even in Nur-24, it is considered that it will abolish GT3 class in a few years (because too dangerous) and make this GT4 top category. If it is decided, it will be popular at a stretch. By the way, old racing car had "this much" temperature. Yes, production car plus "alpha" temperature. (He means old racing car was much closer to production car.) I want to run this M4GT4 in here Japan! There is a GT4 category in Super Taikyu series. So I want to run as a BMW Team Studie in the series. I'm looking for a sponsor!!! I want to race by the status quo as Super GT team. |

Now if the Inline-4 engine was added to the GT3 car, it'll be a weapon to surpass previous GT-Rs!

AMG GT uses a 4 liter turbo V8. Considering that, I don't know why they're still using the old SLS 6.2 V8 other than BOP reasons.

According to Autosport magazine,
Hattori judged that Hirate (#39) didn't give a racing line for Nakajima (#36). So Nakajima didn't take a penalty. |

According to Bob Suzuki-blog
It seems that BMW M8 will replace M6 GT3 in next two years. @Japanese Samurai Can you please help me to translate this article as shown as below in the bold text???

Title: It's surprise for M8 to be announced there!
Surprise thing at yesterday's M Festival venue! It's M8 prototype to debut from next year. It's 8 series M just recently announced the concept! This car will be the base of the racing car from next year. First of all it will be GTE class car. It will be debut at the Daytona 24h race next January. And in 2020 when the Olympic Games are held in Tokyo, the new GT3 car is planned to be debut by this M8 or the rumored new super car. So M6 GT3 will compete as BMW racing car at GT3 category by that time until 2019. But at that time, 6 series is no longer the production car. (discontinued). That is not stylish for BMW. I wonder if BMW can do a good brand strategy a little more, I complained that with Jorg Muller the other day. |

Thing is, that AMG V8 (SLS, etc) and the BMW V8 ( M3 GTS 4.4) were basically sort of road going-ish engines, wheres that four cylinder wouldn't be one |

Speaking of the Nippon Race Engines, it wasn't proven for longer races yet like Nurburgring 24 Hours.
One last thing though, had the Class One regulations failed to unify again, I feel that JAF/GTA would abandon it in favor of a souped-up version of the GTE/GT3 regulations. Imagine the big 3 manufacturers running GTE cars with tons of horsepower and it might reach closer to GT1. |
