plutoman99 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Fuji F1 1974

I've recently read Johnny Tipler's Ronnie Peterson biography, and in the race record at the back it mentions Ronnie's fastest lap in a non-championship race at Fuji in December 1974.

There is no mention of this event in Chris Ellard's 'Forgotten Races', and a google search didn't help either. I'm assuming this was a demo of some sort rather than an actual race, but can anyone help with info. ie. who else was there, what was the reason for them being there etc.?

According to Toyota, in 1974 there was a ā€œ1974 World Winners F1 Demonstration.ā€

This was held on November 24th.
I shall dig further.

The first GP in Japan was in 1976.

It was a 20-lap demonstration. As well as Peterson in a Lotus 72 others who took part were: Carlos Reutemann (Brabham BT44), Patrick Depaillier (Tyrrell), James Hunt (Hesketh) and Emerson Fittipaldi (McLaren M23). Peterson "won" the race after a couple of pit stops.
