Not sure if the LMS TBA entry will be full season or not. 16 so far. Wouldn't surprise me if some of the partial entries will have other drivers in the other rounds though. I guess it's likely that PWR will fill Mikaela's seat for the rounds she's missing for example.

Switch away from TTA rules and the entries go up.. who'd have guessed it?

I think it's more a case of TCR being the right rules right now than the TTA being the wrong rules though. TCR wasn't an option in 2012.

By now I am pretty convinced that you can have a terrible ruleset and still be hugely successful with it, if you manage to convince people that it'll be the 'next big thing'... if you manage to create a buzz/excitement about your ruleset, people and series will flock to it, no matter its inherent flaws. It's all a big case of 'monkey see, monkey do'...

Conversely, you can have a perfectly fine ruleset, that withers away since it doesn't happen to be en vogue.

Does anyone know how many cars Solvalla can have on the grid?

I mean it can have as many as they really want. Move the S/F line down more towards T1 and you could easily have a 24-30 car grid.

Using the FIA maximum starting numbers (Appendix O To The International Sporting Code) for international races about 25-28 cars can start at Solvalla. The STCC may have different rules but I think they would let at least 22 race.

I found an old article saying it was ok for 20 cars. They split the V8 Thundercars field into two groups that year since they were running ~30 cars.

The track changes slighty each year since it's rebuilt for that weekend only so I guess they could probably plan ahead for 20 cars or more.

That is very true. And despite the split between two series in 2012 TTA fielded 16 full season entries and with some big names. But then it slowly declined over the following years.

This first season for the TCR regulations looks to be good although some very good teams are unfortunately missing and the new teams are a bit 'meh'. But the real key is what happens to the momentum in 2018 and 2019. There are a lot of 'if's and 'buts' in the confirmed entries so far, and several partial season entries.

I think the list of teams is pretty good even though a few larger teams are missing, notably WCR and Cyan. Good to have KMS in there and the five car effort by LMS is very encouraging.

If anything is meh I think it's that there are only four non-VAG cars.

Thanks for the replies about Solvalla! I have a hard time getting my head around that event..

I also think it's a bit sad that we are not seeing any more paid drivers. All come with a budget now or are competing team owners. I liked it when we have several well paid drivers in the championship and hopefully we will get back to that.

23 drivers confirmed, 15 confirmed full season and 8 partial. It's a good number. Now we will see how many will turn up for all the races, and how many will stay on for next season.

Solvalla will be fine. I'd be surprised to see all 23 turn up for that event anyway, even if it's one of those events you schedule in as a partial competitor just for the sponsors entertainment.

Really wish the Solvalla layout was a bit different. Currently is super slow and awkward.

My vision of it : http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=7059916

Also, the final race of the meeting should really be run under the lights. Place can be lit up well enough, and the cars do have headlights for the "infield" portions.

I agree. They used to run the qualifying session at night and as a photographer I loved the conditions it provided.

Joonas Lappalainen joins STCC with Cart In Club Driving Academy and an Audi RS3 LMS: https://www.stcc.se/2017/04/24/maste...stcc-satsning/

I expect him to fight for the title.

Looks like he will miss the first race due to clashing commitments which will make a fight for the title hard.

Very excited to see what the championship will be like this year.

Official pre season test this week (wednesday-thursday)

According to TCT, he won´t drive the full season.

I missed that information, thanks . It´s sad to see that there are so many partial season entries, but of course there are still many full time entries and the field should be waaaayyy better than 2016.

A two-result-deduction point system would be good for this year...
