Re: Soames Langton

That's a question I have asked myself many times. I haven't heard anything about thim since, and I can only assume that his injuries (head, I believe) were so severe that he went through a long period of recuperation - and I hope he has fully recovered.

I am also curious on the current whereabouts of Langton. I saw that race live in Eurosport and that was a very bad shunt, with the car hitting the barriers almost without losing speed. Ironically, it all happened in a low speed circuit as Nogaro.

I recall that Langton suffered severe head injuries, and I believe the initial press reports desbribed medical bulletins mentioning irreversible brain damage.

Any information would be welcome.

Soames....yes a terrible conclusion to a sour weekend.

Prompt attention by the track medics at Nogaro and at Bordeaux Hospital saved Soames' life.

He returned to the UK and has been hospitalised since then with apparently irreversable brain damage. He was treated at a number of places including the clinic run by Professor Sid Watkins but nothing could be done and I believe that he is still in care.

A tragic waste of a young life.

Just about puts things into perspective, doesn't it.

Thanks moderator.

I went to see Soames in hospital.........a harrowing experience for me..............how much worse for him...........he appeared to understand who I was and what was been said and the pictures that were shown to him............I had the impression that he was trapped behind a wall.

Also his family have suffered greatly............his father was killed at Brands Hatch during the historics race that was a support event to the last F1 Grand Prix held at the Kent circuit...........almost ten years later to the day Soames had his accident in Nogaro.

I was watching the McLaren Le Mans video 'Persuit of Perfection' recently and the final shot of the Lanzante team spraying champagne features a happy smiling Soames...........made my blood run cold.

I'm sorry to hear that. Desperately sorry. I always had a soft spot for Soames, and his father Stephen. I suspected the prognosis had not changed, but there was always the inner hope that no news might mean good news.

I had the harrowing experience of seeing Stephen's Brands Hatch accident at close hand, and it was one of the most distressing moments in my life. Our sport can be unbelievably cruel.

Still praying for a miracle. But a miracle appears to be what it will take.

I have just read that Soames has died. A very long and tragic end to his life.

That's very sad indeed. That poor family have suffered a great deal for their love of this sport.
