...just in case it should disappear...

Wonder why it hasn't been picked up anywhere else?

Dunno. It's weird.

Mr Noonan was posed the question this evening, I've noticed. He appeared to be unaware of it.

I think I can recall either RBR or Walkinshaw having this seatbelt setup.

It had the left shoulder and left lap belts already connected to the centre release latch.

Actually, it was shown when SvG got into his car for the final stint. I don't have the facilities to check, can someone confirm or tell me I'm dreaming?

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I had been told today by someone who re-watched sandown that it was a triple 8 car.

This seems to confirm that. Did triple 8 get caught out by forgetting that the rules changed last year

Is loosely tethering two belts at their buckles with a breakable zip-tie, considered a modification to the belts and their function?

Perhaps, but I don't feel it warrants anything more than a strong recommendation not to do it.

I think they're saying it's illegal by FIA standards, not CAMS, so who knows how that gets interpreted

They have been told to remove the approval tag so it must be something more permanent than a simple zip-tie or two.

So if the zip tie holds the buckle in so that when released it does not come out of the catch,
surely the mechanism inside still releases it unless it has been modified internally.

So if you put the belts back on and don't push in that one buckle because it is already in there,
do you bet your life or someone else's that it is still in the catch correctly
and wont come out in a crash.????

My understanding was that the left shoulder strap, and left lap strap are tethered to be within close proximity of eachother when released.

Surely you are kidding, a serious breach of FIA safety regulations has occurred.

"Remind people of the regulations"
So from now on whenever a team is found breaching regulations (cheating), we just "remind people of the rules and move on".

So in future, if someone else is caught cheating, a statement is issued reminding everyone of the rules and we all move on.

In other words, the team caught cheating can simply claim "we forgot about that rule", please remind us again and then we all move on ?????

BS big time.

Seems as though the catagory had a tough time enforcing rules that perhaps they were not even clear on.

Surely, it's their job to make sure they were entirely up to date and "clear on" such a vital rule.

don't know if things work differently in Oz but here in UK checking and affirming compliance with Safety Regulations is nothing to do with the circuit or race promoters or championship / series / 'category' organisers - it's entirely the responsibility of the ASN-appointed scrutineers.

Yes, the scrutineers checked all the belts on the Thursday at Sandown.
At the time, none of the belts were attached at more than one point at the time of the inspection.

From what I gather (from a pit crew member) is the belts were having the release box modified / changed on the Saturday night, for use in the
warm-up / race.
