This years Telstra Rally Australia starts only 1 day after my birthday and if it stayed the same next year it would be on my birthday but it will be moved 2 weeks earlier next year.

Is it me ,or is this crazy
2006, 16 rallys in a 12 month period
2007, 8 or 9 rallys in 5 months Jan-May
So that's 25 rallys in 17 months at a time when manufacturers are leaving the sport and those that are left are saying its getting too expensive, and logistics are a nightmare.

Alan Green should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The alternative is no WRC for 8-9 months while the calendar swaps from 'summer' to 'winter' running between the end of the '06 season and the start of the '07/'08 season, and I think that is a more damaging proposition (out of sight, out of mind, out of sponsors minds) IMO

I agree that a large gap in the series would not be a good thing, but could a couple of events not have been cut from the 2006 calendar to accomodate the transition.
The 06 calendar looks so congested, I mean, five days from the end of the Rally Deutschland to the start of the Neste Rally Finland.

If Rally Ireland gets a world championship slot are they going to expand the schedule even further?? Or are they planning to drop, say, Germany?

They've managed to expand the schedule to bursting point yet at the same time have dropped two of the 'classics'. I'd love to see the Safari back on the schedule - its not really a 'world rally' championship without Africa and all its challenges. And I really miss San Remo..

On the plus side its good to see the Rally GB back in its proper slot at the end of the season...

The calendar certainly needs sorting out - Greece, Cyprus and Turkey? One of them certainly but you don't need all three - too similar. An african round would certainly be good, whether it's the safari of old or somewhere else.

Events you need:

GB (obviously )
Finland
Monte Carlo
Sweden
Australia
Argentina
Greece
Kenya (or replace with other African round)
Spain
Italy
Mexico
Japan

That gives a good geographical spread (it is a world championsip after all) and a good range of surfaces. Those core events also leave space for others to be added to pad out the calendar.
