Road America Race Thread ** SPOILERS **

Rain, rain, rain and, yeah, some more rain...

They just red-flagged the race and sent all the cars back to the pits after a bunch of laps under caution. Lavin also managed to send his car into the tires and damage it - apparently; it didn't look damaged at all - enough that they needed to pick it up and carry it out of there.

I'm guessing the HDTV coverage is the reason I got a letterboxed picture on Eurosport. Sucks.

Jet-blower out on track right now.

hoho, according to the Swedish commentators quite a few of the drivers are complaining about the rain (although I don't think it looks that bad - it's far from, for example, the rains at Surfers' last year), but Sebastien Bourdais thinks it's silly and can't understand why they haven't gotten the green flag yet

Then again, considering the amount of wet weather experience he has in sports-cars and Formula 3000, I'm not surprised.

Is the race officialy started or does the red flag mean they will restart the race from the first lap of the 60 others lap ?

The started the race under yellow, but I'm not sure if they plan to reset it or pick up where they left off when they displayed the red flag if they ever get this race under way.

What a bummer, I had been looking forward to this race, and now it's raining so hard that they can't run the race, at least not at the moment.

Rustyfan, you can hear the Swedish commentators? I'm not receiving any commentators at all on Eurosport. Any news on when the race might be restarted?

Ok, Sebastien Bourdais is the man. He's definitley my favourite driver now. What's the big deal, it's just water!

Yep, I have commentary.

It seems the weather is getting a little better, and they hope to get the race started soon. Since I was in the kitchen when they mentioned it I missed what the new race distance will be, but it seems the race will be shortened a bit once they finally get it under way (which, as I understood it, won't be that far off).

The pace-car is leading the field out of the pits now.

New race distance; 47 laps, as opposed to the planned 60.

Salles was stuck in the pits (when everyone else left it), but he got it going and is now on his way out onto the track.

Commentators just said they will do a few more caution laps before going green.

Man, the spray in the main straight will be absolute hell. I'd be very surprised if everyone makes it through the first turn.

I'm with Tag and Kermit, either you start the race or you don't. Last thing fans want is to see Surfers Paradise Part 2. Stop running around in the yellow wasting laps.

Also,loving Paul's comments,the sissy flag.

I could hear that interview in spite of not having any commentators. "Sissy flag" - how true. Sebastien Bourdais still wants to race. He said that he has raced in worse conditions than this.

Bourdais will start the race alone

Does someone know when will the race restart tomorow ?

I think they are going to get the drivers out of the cars, get dry, relax and then call them up and talk with the officials, then they will make a decision.

Eurosport just left Road America to show tennis instead. This is ridiculous - the conditions weren't that bad.

That's it, CART's dead to me. Effing cowards won't start a race because of a little rain... On a damn road course!

Neither will I watch the crapwagons. Everyone in a position of influence within Indycar racing (both CART and IRL) is completely out of their minds!

I'm done with them all. IMSA's on, and it's a great race.

Cya.

The problem of CART is that it makes sense. It's probably not sensible to have a race start with 18 cars spraying loads of water (we haven't seen them at full speed, remember), but if we were to think like this, there'd be no wet racing. So put me in the Bourdais camp, let's start this thing. Once the cars start distancing themselves, there shouldn't be much difficulty.

Carpentier suggested that they stop making rain tyres if they're not going to race in the rain. Then Jeremy Shaw, an Englishman no less, says conditions are no suitable to go racing. They shouldn't race in these conditions because the drivers are going to try and go as fast as they can, and that's dangerous. WELL by that logic, I guess they should stop making racing tyres all together because racing is dangerous... This is quite sad.
