Rolex 24 2010

I was looking for a suitable thread but could not find one so.....

The "Roar before the 24" is this weekend and the season opener is just 3 weeks away so that is a nice prospect as I sit here and look at all that white stuff.

Does anybody know if we have a prospect of TV in the UK? The Grand-Am wesite shows Speed TV, will Motors or Eurosport be taking the feed?

Is it live anyway? Last year Eurosport showed parts and bits live. Kind of the coverage before MotorsTV did Le Mans 24h full live. The years before it was just about live streaming at best. I remember one year where just 4 trackside webcams and timing was available.

Nice entry list so far - expecting some more spectacular entries this evening...

Here my pics from last year: http://www.flickr.com/photos/saarbur...7620005627954/

I was there last January and am going back again this time - can't wait!

My photos are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chocmon...7613166371660/

There are usually web streams available of the SpeedTV coverage which will appear nearer the time.

I know guys who are going to be there this weekend for the Roar and will be posting reports and photos on www.garra-fans.com

Dont think so - the forecasts arent so bad !!! Today they announced the entry from Timo and Romain in TRG#71 - there will be a huge battle in GT-class. So many world-class drivers !!! 6 Porsche work drivers + Farnbacher, Ragginger, Lux, Menten, Bleekemolen, OYoung - its like a Porsche hall of fame meeting !!!

just too bad they let Dirk Werner go. I bet he would have played a very good role.

while the Daytona 24 has become less appealing to me over the years for various reasons, I am always excited to see this race as it is the "kick-off" of the motor racing year.

I think I am most excited about the new Camaro GT R campaigned by Stevenson Motorsport, with Robin Liddel and Andrew Davis behind the wheel
.

I would be more excited if it was actually a 'new' car rather than a new body draped over one of their old GXP-R tube chassis. Hey, it does look better than the Pontiac cough lozenge, but almost anything would...

They are worrying about snow in Daytona this weekend so pack a few warm clothes just incase it's still cold at the end of the month.

Quite a few people from the site I mentioned are meeting up so if you'd like to join us just visit the forum there to find out the info.

As for TV coverage I've heard that Eurosport will be showing approx. 7 hours of the race.

Here is a LINK to the local weather (at the airport), adjacent to the track. It includes a five day forecast. If you click on the "Customize Your Icons" link (very small text on r/h side of the screen in a blue `bar') and then click on "Page Prefernces" you may also be able to select metic tempeature display.

Why is this thread becoming a judgment of the Rolex series? I would LOVE to be at the 24 this year. The Continental SCC race alone will be worth the price of admission. Say what you want about the Grand-Am era Rolex 24 itself, this year should be very exciting, a lot of unknowns, closely prepared cars and it is a 24 hour race! If only they had 24+ hours of radio coverage of the race, that would allow me to pull my traditional 24 hour race all-nighter and REALLY get into it. That said, I'm currently writing a detailed car-by-car race preview, I'll keep followers of this thread apprised of its progress if you want it, and if I can get it out there into Internet-land, I'll most certainly link it here.

Personally I love the old IMSA days at the Daytona 24 when the GTP and GTO/U cars ran together. Sweet days.
Here's a thought, why not run LMIC and FIA-GT1 together as a 24 hours race next year to kick off the season for both of those series? Would be more fun tho if we had some top American teams/constructors in both classes

The DPs are fun, altho it seems odd to me that it should be so hard to get one of those cars to last 24 hours without problems. Wasnt it only one car last year that ran without any bigger problems, out of some 20 starting? Atleast they tend to stay close together when they are all running.

Nope, four cars finished within 16 seconds - so it was not just one car. However, all the Fords except for one DNF'd due to some defect in the engine...

The one Ford that made it was the SunTrust #10 Dallara/Ford (Wayne Taylor) that finished 4th; it was the one car with the older batch Ford engine.

What I'm really wondering about from this entry list though is, where the heck has Davy Jones been for all this time?!

cmk said it before: Joey hand and Bill Auberlen have a long relationship with Turner Motorsport, so that's more something they do in their freetime to help out an old friend than an official assignment from BMW...

Although I wonder what happens if a BMW engined car (with Level5's impressive driver lineup and Ganassi's proven strength in this race that's a real possibility) wins the 24hours overall. Will BMW recognize this somehow or just plainly ignore it?

B6S is a Alpina, not a BMW. So I think BMW can't do much about that. Besides that the GT3 is based on a road car and not a tubeframe. The latter BMW doesn't like.

I am sure that BMW could find a way to make Alpina's life miserable if they really wanted to. I don't think they do, however - they will just try to beat them instead!

I agree that their focus is really working against these bloody tube-frame cars however. Who can blame them either - the PR1 car is just an old Pratt & Miller GXP.R frame with a new body draped over it...no good marketing there!
