Le Mans Legends results?
Got back from trackside tonight, and now I'm wondering - can anyone point me in the direction of a set of results for the Legends support race on Saturday morning.
A numbered list of entrants would be nice too. The ACO press office boutique was singularly unable to help me in my quest! |

Haven't had a chance to look yet, but, needless to say, the Tourists were well pleased with the winner!

It was fantasic to see a 512 and a 917 on the same track. It's a shame the 917 was so much slower, and I didn't hear any explanation as to why. Anyone know?

I saw it on Eurosport and I liked it, especially the yellow Ligier.

So, has anyone got the results?
Am disappointed to hear the 917 was slow, but will be comforted somewhat if the 512 did well for the big bangers! Last edited by krt917; 18 Jun 2003 at 18:52. |

the first laps battle between the Ligier and the beautiful 512S were simply amazing. Looked to me as if the ligier was more stable, the 512 was more "on the edge". Great race. As for the 917, i think the driver was nursing it a bit, he took it easy with the gears. Also the battle between the T70´s was so nice. Couple of spins for the older one. Jackie Olivier (was really he..?) in the gulf GT40... I simply loved it

According to the official entry #40 was a GT40 - I'm guessing that judging by your question it wasn't!

Where did you get that entry list. I have one of the field with out numbers. I think these where displayed on the startship enterprise, but I never considered remembering the numbers. Most where obvious, but then we get to something like this.
Number 4 was a GT40. I don't remember seeing a number 40 GT40 (although that is not to say there wasn't). Number 12 was also a GT40. . |

Ray Bellm raced a #40 GT40 at the Classic last September, did his car have the same number this time? The only pic I have of it is through the tress and it is a long way off.

The small photo of Willie on the podium on page 115 of todays Autosport has the caption ' First Ligier winner since Panis in '96?'
To answer their question, I am sure I saw Willie win with this car at the Silverstone Coys Gp 4 / Prototype race in 2000. Can anyone confirm? |

i've figured it now as a gt40. its quite small in the frame, moving fast, and in red...so it fooled me a little! |

- The driver of the Ligier was Willie Green
- #40 was the GT40 of Chris Chiles - the driver of the GT40 #4 was Le Mans winner Jackie Oliver Thierry |

Yes, the Ligier driver was Willie Green. He drove the Ligier last September in the Classic as well. It just so happens that Willie is the brother of 10/10ths member Stoffer Green - a regular Tourist (although, alas, not in 2003). I have some rather nice pics of Willie getting ready to start the race (they'll no doubt appear on my site in the weeks to come).

Maybe he didn't want to do that again. Just a thought. Did you hear that he bought the car from Porsche for £16,000 |

The Ligier might be a unique car. It did a valourous prestation at LM in 1971 although finishing NC due to lack of distance. Can't remember if 2 cars were done but it succeeded in national events, winning against 908 and T33. An ideal car to race that sort of event as it seems one of the only pre-72 car to have a DFV (apart from the fords P68-69). This car (or its sister but it might be unique...) was found lying under a shed at the end of the 70's in the Ligier factory by Pierre Bardinon , french Ferrari specialist. He did a first rebuild but never raced it. By now the lady might have done more miles in his second carreer.
Having seen Piper in his 917 10years ago at Montlhery i can swear neither the car nor the driver were afraid of anything. Might be the years ?? (on the car) |

I had to type them in from my results sheet Hopefully more tomorrow. Mark Hales set fastest lap - 4'24.658, against Willie's 4'24.735, in Nick Mason's Ferrari 512S. Left rear puncture put him out at the esses on lap 6. Willie lost 2nd gear, no big problem, and Jacky Oliver put himself out with a puncture and broken wheel, trying to pass David Piper at the Ford Chicane at the end of lap 10. Phil Hill's pretty Alfa Guilia TZ1 went through two engines. one after a lap's practice, and the other after one laps's racing. |
