Unseen qualification footage from the CTCRC/Clarkson Italian Job DVD.
Ok I thought I had lost this, its the original qualification/practice footage from the Jeremy Clarkson DVD shoot at Lydden Hill for his "Clarkson's Italian Job" filmed from the seat of my yellow Camaro. I saved the video to a memory stick and believed I had sent it to the production company and wondered why they never used any of the excellent footage of this action packed video that features many iconic cars from the Classic Touring Car Racing Club's Post Historics and Group Ones. Anyhow I found this stick and thought I would check what was on it and it was the video, I had obviously sent them the wrong one! So this is the first time this footage has been seen, Clarkson is in the green, totally illegal Mk 1 Escort and the brown Mk 1 that overtakes me later in the film is the V8 Tuscan engined car they used as a camera car (also not elligible of course. The video features Daniel Ryan, Neil Bray, David Howard, Tim Scott Andrews, and Dave Hicton, and many other of the clubs drivers, enjoy and turn up the volume if you like V8's I personally think its my best video to date! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eNu9hA4fGw

Thats Iain, appologise to Mrs. Delta for me!
Yeah Wayne you are right there, on the Penske IROC, a showcase series to promote the GM Camaro, there are no less 3 major Ford components on the car, the Ford 9" back axle as you said, the steering box and the front uprights (Lincoln Continental), bet you never found that in the advert at the time lol! |

Thanks Gerry, one of the reasons there is so much action in this video is although it was meant to be a qualification session the fact that Steve the mechanic and builder of the green Escort and who Clarkson refers to as the "Former male Model" in the DVD was having a lot of grief with the cars clutch and had removed the gearbox about half a dozen times and basically we were running out of time because of the track curfew, so this session was the first time the Escort actually worked properly and may have been the only one (it wasnt as it turned out) so we had to give it a bit just in case. The race although edited on the DVD was for real as you will notice the white Escort of Dan Ryan takes a big whack from the white and green Capri during the race and had to retire with rearranged front suspension yet is seen to cross the start and finish line in the final cutting much to Dan's delight!
