GP2 pitstop and FL changes

The sporting regs for GP2 have changed. This effects the compulsary pitstops - there will now only be one and it will involve a change of rear tyres.

In addition you now have to complete 90% of the race to have any chance of gaining the FL bonus point.

See http://www.autosport-atlas.com/news.aspx?id=43862&s=9

The first one is good IMHO. There is now an actual reason for stopping, but will this mean we shall see strategic pitstops depending on tyre wear or are the tyres too hard for it to make much difference? In which case you still might get lap 1 changes to allow running in clear air.

The second one helps a little, but it still up for abuse.

It shows they're listening to the teams and adapting - which is good.

GP2 is being run, F3000 was just left to exist.

Good news, although we might see races won and lost this weekend in the pits, the tyre changes we saw at Imola seemed to be quite slow and clumsy.

I guess thats what they will be practacing most this weekend!

In any event, if these GP2 teams want to prosper or graduate to F1 one day, they ought to able to carry out swift and efficient pit stops.

This is good. 2005 was always going to be a settling-in year, so a few chops and changes are only to be expected.

not too bad. the fastest lap one will also stop guys like lapierre and viso deliberatly going for a fastest lap like they did at imola. cant blame them for doing so, they must have felt like **** about it, but it was kinda taking things away from what a race is all about. ive never been a fan of setting up a car for a fastest race lap just because your race is nothing otherwise, even when adam carroll did it last year at silverstone...

as for the pitstop one, all the better aswell.

The reduction of number of mandatory pit-stops to one is a good thing, because two are too much for a GP2 race and is a bit confusing.

But deny the FL points to drivers who haven't qualified in the final results isn't fair to me, mostly in cases where the race leader does the FL and has to abandon shortly after due to mechanic problems.

But is it fair that a driver who has no chance of points deliberately pits for fresh tyres just to have a crack at fastest lap, rather than trying to get the best possible race result?

I also think two points is too much - maybe one point bonus for FL, although I'd prefer none at all.

to give 2 points for fastest lap when you could get less for a 6th and a 8th in the races isnt really that fair. i felt for nicolas and ernesto in imola but it was clear they had no intentions of race points so deliberatly went for bonus points. and the likes of ryan sharp for sure deserved points from barca considering they were on the pace but i dont think its right that you get more points for setting fastest lap than you would for a sterling drive to 6th place...
