Estimates say 20,000 gate..but nothing official. Great to see and hear a contemporary F1 car at Snett again - first time since Wiggy's Pacific in 1994. Installation lap, out lap, flying lap, in lap..all the FIA allowed them to do. I didn't time it but several people said the flying lap was a 59sec, Fauzy driving. A contemporary F1 ( if allowed ) should easily get under 50secs with more set up time, laps and a front running car. The best event at Snetterton for years..!

John - by looking where you took your pictures from we must have been standing close together - perhaps us 10-Tenths nuttes should were silly hats so we can idenify each other.
Also bit dissapointed in coverage in Autosport and Motoring News of th event.

Although for us locals EDP covered it well!

Mentions owners bringing cars over from as far as Australia- impressive stuff.

Race 9 - Production BMW

I was only able to spectate at about 4 races on the day, and only two of those could be described as involving 'older' cars, a category of which the E30 BMW definitely, in my book, falls into, and I still think it one of the finest sporting saloons ever built.

This race was the 3rd of the weekend involving these cars, this one featuring cars from classes A & C. Sponsored by Gaz Shocks, over 15 minutes (11 laps), this was a good field of 27 cars of which 23 were classified as finishers. The race had started by the time I had got to the Russell Chicane, and in view of the density of the crowd, I was concentrating more on finding suitable places to shoot from rather than the actual racing. However the race was won by Ben Winrow (122) from Nick Barke (105) and Robin Welsh (79), and as you can see from a couple of the pics below they stayed together pretty much the whole race, with less than 2.5 seconds covering all three at the flag. Welsh, in finishing 3rd, was also Class C winner. Two posts:-

Race 11 - Heritage GT Challenge

An odd series, really, catering for all sorts of saloons and GT cars from the 60s and 70s but does the Ram Cobra 427 fit into that description? Although trim is supposed to be basically standard, the level of mods allowed to engine, brakes and suspension tend to take most of these cars out of other historic series. On the other hand, surelythe Pat Thomas twin persicope Lotus 47(29) is a genuine historic car, which I would have though might be suitable for the invitation class of the Guards Trophy. Anyway, it's a good fun series, which could do with more entries, and a bit more reliability, for a 30 minute race with compulsory pit stop. 20 cars started; 13 finished. Early leader was the John Dickson/Cheng Lim Ram Cobra (35) but it retired 3 laps from the end. There was a red flag period fairly early on but I cannot recall the reason. The race was ultimately won by the Roger Bennington/Boysie Thurtle Aston V8 (17) which was spectacular out of the Russell Chicane (Boysie on board?) in the second half. Joss Ronchetti and Phil Seaman driving the former's much developed Lotus Sunbeam (13) was 2nd with the Ian McCallum/John Bussell Aston DB5, 3rd. 3 posts:-
