Dale Earnhardt coin...........

my uncle told me a couple of days ago that in 2003 or 2004 North Carolina is going to make their new official quarter have Dale Sr on the front,he said that Dale will be the first person besides a president to be on a U.S coin.

Sounds Hokey to me

YO Bud,
I went to the North Carolina website and also the US Mint website and there is no mention of this coin. Sounds like bogus information to me. Can you tell us where your "Uncle" dreged up this info?

I've seen some dumb coins advertised on TV- They aren't actually currency- just collector items.

I think it was an ad on ESPN. But I still don't think it was real currency.

pretty sure the ad said us mint & it wasn't going to be circulated...I think the us mint has made special un-circulated coins before, but none without a us prez on it.

In the first place states don't "make" quarters or any other currency for that matter. Only the US mint can make "official" currency or coins.N.carolina already has it's official quarter.they may take a regular quarter and paint dale earnhardt on it but that's about all they could do.They could also make a collectors coin but it would't be official currency. You couldn't spend it.

Yeah it's a company that purchased un-circulated "North Carolina" quarters & are painting Dale's pic on them. I seached the BBB's website & found nothing on the company. Also did an engine search and came up with no web site. Did check the yellow pages on the net and there was a listing. Guess, let the buyer beware.

I'll give you a dollar for four of em!!ROTF!
Some companies have come out with some quality collector pieces, the best in limited quantities. Some are just selling junk, out to make a buck off someone elses misfortune and the folks that loved them, not unlike the folks who want to publish the autopsy photos. Also I thought it was illegal to deface official US currency.I guess there must be a loophole.

I remember that because of the close relationship over the years that QVC had with the Earnhardts they suspended all sales of Dales stuff for a period of time after his death untill they got the go ahead from Teresa to resume sales of his stuff. Now that's class.

What is the largest denomination for your coins is it the 25c piece?

In the nearly defunct, Irish coins, for the millenium they brought out a millenium coin, most £1 coins made in 2000 were special millenium coins, totally legal tender.

Sometimes I see the Brits advertise, special coins for the Queen, they did a £5 coin, even though they only have £5 notes, that was legal tender actually. they only made a certain amount to keep it collectable!

Coins cost much much less to make than their 'face value' , so decorating them shouldn't add much to the cost.

The department of Treasury is responsible for that, but U.S coins can be changed to people of other occupations besides presidents.

We still have half dollar coins in circulation ,a few Susan B.Anthony dollar coins(they never quite caught on) and the new gold colored Dollar coin which I have not personaly used yet but have seen them in the coin tray and the bank. the wierd thing is, because of the drug trade the biggest paper bill is now one hundred dollar bill. We used to have the thousand dollar bill.

Yeah, I've noticed that Roselady, that's why I included the 'ROTF' on there. I was being facetious.
