Dennis Replaces Whitmarsh as CEO
Not a lot on it right now, hopefully more will come out soon.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula-one/25766407 EDIT: Should point out that Dennis has only taken over as CEO of Mclaren Group, but this might pave the way for him to take over as Team principal |

Looks like it will pave the way for Ross Brawn to be principal...

I don't think Dennis will return as team principal. But it seems Whitmarsh though is on his way out? Redeployed to another side of the group, perhaps?
Maybe it's time. Get some new blood in, in order to ensure Honda's integration is as seamless as can be. |

Can't you just tell that Ron's back?

Martin's a nice guy, but corporate type. Ron and Ross are harder nosed about the sport, about winning.... |

Over the next few months Ron's looking to see who's truely McLaren and begin to strip away any of the Mercedes minded staff, ahead of Honda coming in at the end of the season. Last edited by ScotsBrutesFan; 16 Jan 2014 at 23:15. |

perfect timing for a comeback though....all of his old enemies are gone or possibly on their way out, a new partnership with Honda on the horizon, the other branches are strong so time to come back and sort out the F1 side of things.
must say i dont hold the same reverence for RD as you guys do and would be sad if/when Whitmarsh is shown the door but it is exciting news just a week out from the launch. |

He's not coming back as team principal. The statement clearly indicates his remit is the entire group of which the team is but one component of.

One assumes Whitmarsh will be despatched to the goulag along with anyone else at Woking who dares question the return of Der Fuhrer.
Which reminds me. Did anyone who watched the last episode of Sherlock notice the remarkable similarity between McLaren's Woking HQ and AppleDore? |

I believe McLaren is the longest established GP team/chassis-maker behind Ferrari?
I certainly want them to succeed just for their history alone. I welcome Denis coming back because he'll certainly do his best to get McLaren back where they belong. As nice as Martin Whitmarsh is he didn't ever seem to have the "steel" necessary to do the job properly. Teams like McLaren are the dna of Grand Prix racing, I much prefer them to car manufacturer teams who are driven by corporate business, not racing passion. |

It is worth remembering that to his very last day Enzo simply saw the Ferrari road car operation as a means of making money for racing. It would be nice to think that sentiment still exists somewhere in the Ferrari hierarchy.
I really don't like Ron, he's far too much like a cartoon villain for me, but it's about time McLaren became worthy competitors again. |

but Whitmarsh is still CEO of Mclaren Racing and despite the teams short comings during his tenure as Team Principle i dont think it would be fair to say that their problems are in any way financial.
its a hard one though. certainly a new title sponsor on its way plus a new high profile engine partner would count as commercial successes but the lack of results are sporting failures. or relative to other team principles is his failure as great as Dominicalli's who arguably has done less with more? |

I think it might be for similar reasons why I like him. He's a bit of a chuff, but not actually evil. He does need a dog sidekick. I thought that was what Louise got Roscoe for. |

Ross Brawn-Honda-McLaren, it all makes sense to me.
I'm not sure that going back to the past with Ron Dennis is the way to go, but we will see. |

imo if he wants to stay in F1 he will have to accept some sort of 'on paper demotion' but the Mclaren Team Principle job also comes with the title of CEO of Mclaren Racing so its really not that bad from a pride point of view. anyways im just talking for the sake of talking....Whitmarsh is keeping the job. |
