Jay Kay's Garage

Right. We ALL know he's a pompous git with more cash than sense. But come on, let's admit it. IN FACT, let's stand up in front of our computers. Go on. Stand. Now say out loud the folowing - I WISH I WAS JASON KAY.

Sit. Relax. For the purposes of this thread, you ARE Jay Kay. You have a garage with FIVE spaces only. Money no object. Fill it.

THAT'S NOT TO SAY THAT YOU SHOULD GO OUT AND BUY THE FIVE MOST EXPENSIVE CARS YOU CAN FIND!! Let's have a bit of a blend. Classics. Modern. Rally cars. Racing cars. Rare cars. Production models. Mix it up a bit!!

Me??

Ferrari Enzo (Black)
Lancia Stratos (Alitalia livery)
AMG E55 (Black)
Ferrari 250LM (Rosso)
Caterham Superlight R500 (Orange)*

*If the R500 is just TOO scary, I may settle for the 400 or 300.

This list is liable to change at a moment's notice!! I'm... fickle. Currently I'm looking at that Mercedes and thinking "yes, but the new Ferrari 456GT is coming out in about a year or so", for example.

Of course the cars lucky enough to fill those spaces are - with a couple of exceptions perhaps - going to change every year or two.

But RIGHT here, RIGHT now...

1961/2 Ferrari 250 GTO, for Goodwood and other weekend jaunts with Nick Mason.
Lamborghini Murcielago, for those days when one truly wants it.
Bentley Arnage T, for when one's accompanied by more than one supermodel.
Pagani Zonda C12S, for summer weekends and Cannonball Runs.
Range Rover Autobiography, for ...er... shopping.

But then I'd want to swap and change. Do I need four road cars? Don't I want a Group B Audi Quattro Sport? Or a 555 Impreza? Or a 'vette C5R LM GTS? Or an Enzo? Or a Porsche 917 long tail?

One can begin to understand how Nick Mason's got more cars than he knows.

Audi Rs4
1933 Pierce-Arrow Silver Arrow
1973 911 Carrera 2.7 RS or maybe a 934 for vintage events
Ferrari P3
205 T16
Isn't it great to be a deluded hedonist?

After the first motor has expired, perhaps a Honda Civic Hybrid would enter as some deference to the conscience is necessary. And it would prevent one from becoming too jaded.

McLaren F1
Merc SL55 AMG
1973 911RS (rhd Lightweight)
1949 Humber Pullman (I already own this + it's a keeper)
Overfinch 580S (based on new Rangey)

I'm a 5th of the way there but I accept I've cheated slightly! To go with this little lot I'd also buy a house that was advertised in this months Classic Car mag - big manor house in Provence set in 600 hectare's and came complete with it's own castle and more to the point it's own 1.8km racetrack!!!

Ferarri F50 Barchetta (I think that's what it's called. The soft top version) - For 100% flash git posing effect

Audi RS6 Avant - 4.2V8, 450BHP twin-turbo. 190Mph when unrestricted. Oh, and it's an Estate, or a wagon if you prefer. 190 with the wife, kids, dog, shopping and a sofa in the back would be fun.

Audi A4 cabriolet 2.5TDi - Fantastic, economical and practical. I plan on having one in September.

Subaru Impreza STi (Prodrive flavour) - Something to sling around the country lanes late at night, which I couldn't do with the RS6

And just as a weekend toy, an original AC Cobra

I don't understand how JK is worth so much money. The acid skiffler's albums don't sell in the UK as well as, say, David Gray's or Pulp's, but he seems to have the cash to splash. Is he dead popular around the world?

I guess it's his worldwide popularity, but that's more like a Gravel Trap discussion.
My five choices?

1) Lambo Countach, because they look outrageous still and they sound great!

2) F1, need I say more?

3) Ferrari 250 GTO, Mmmmmmm.....

4) GT40

5) Dutton B-Type

I'm just going to keep my Bowler parked outside. Problem solved.

Can't decide on matt black with blacked out windows or full camoflage paint job

Nah, I'll keep the Bowler parked in the back garden!

I'd be tempted to go for full camouflage. Could be awkward at junctions though...

"sorry mate, didn't see you..."

"Ah."

Maybe Land Rover yellow is the best plan. Might aswell be loud...

I've no idea why you can't access the site directly. Here's an Enzo for sale on the site and you can navigate the whole garage from here: http://www.carclassic.com/html/DF84.htm

My 5-car garage

Okay, this is going to be easy. Five spaces to fill and no budgetary constraints. Let's see...

1 - Mercedes Benz 300SLR. Car #722 - Stirling Moss's Mille Miglia car, as restored by Mercedes Benz. I'd like them to fly in monthly to fettle it too, please
300 SLR

2 - Bugatti T35. This would have to be a really snotty-looking one direct from a French barn, but fettled by someone good like Ivan Dutton. It'd have to be running on methanol and the supercharger would have to stay, but it'd be run as a road car, Hamish Moffat-style, and used to terrorise the natives
Bugatti T35

3 - ERA. This'd have to be Remus (or maybe ERA 4D) and I'd like to retain David Morris to fettle it and to deliver it to race meetings and to Prescott where I'd run both it and the T35 up the hill
ERA Remus

4 - Ferrari 250 GTO. This'd be "The Goodwood Car" and be used for shopping, going to the pub - and racing at Goodwood when invited
250 GTO

5 - Jaguar D Type. This'd have to be a little battered, paintwork still shiny but panels rippley with rub marks down the side from where Stirling had a side-by-side moment last time I lent it to him. It'd have an unimpeachable history, having driven by all the greats at all the right circuits. It'd get invited everywhere and I'd just have to go along with it
D Type

6 - If I'm allowed a sixth, sensible car, it'd be a Mercedes 320CDi Estate. In black, for running around in. With a towbar, please...

Tristan, do you really want us to tell you where to put you Porsche GT1?

What do you want that recycled Jag for anyway?

1/ Ford GT40 MK2
2/ Ferrari 250 GTO
3/ Marcos MAntis LM600 EVO
4/ TVR Speed 12
5/ Lancia Delta Intergrade in rally kit

oh, no more room, the McLaren F1 GTR will have to stay outside.

and i think Jay Kay has all those cars to compensate for something, maybe his lack of height.

(I think he means whilst lying on his back)

Can't make up my mind between a CLK-GTR or one of the Porsche GT1s on Carclassic.com. So as it is, my list remains stable (with the Bowler outside. In the moat, probably).

We were at Le Mans in 98 when the CLK's lasted about 4 hours and the race was won by a Porky GT1, so if you want reliability.....

All I want is something UTTERLY vulgar yet wonderful in every way. Both of these cars fit the bill niceley. I think I'll have a CLK-GTR roadster (anyone see the one for sale on carclassic.com??!! Urgh it's AWFUL. Clearly owned by some Sheikh. BUT I WANT IT SO!!)

That roadster certainly looks outragous but I think out of that lot I'd go for the CLK-LM!
