Serious ZOOM

Hmm soon we will need a trailer to get our lenses anywhere...

Hello daddy! Meet Sigma's new APO 200-500 f2.8 ultra telephoto zoom lens. Weighing 16kg (35-pounds), it's the world's first to offer a F2.8 aperture at 500mm focal length. A dedicated F5.6 attachment ensures autofocusing at 1000mm while an internal Li-ion battery powers the zooming and AF mechanics. Available for Sigma and Nikon mounts in June or Canons in April for ¥2,500,000 or nearly $25,000. So ask yourself, just how deep does your love for the bird go?

Hmmmm.....not for me I'm afraid.....

It's a bit of a monster TBH, and at 16Kgs would be too heavy to carry around.

At that weight you would need a monster tripod and head to support it, and that alone would probably set you back the best part of another £600 to cope with the weight....I couldn't actually find a tripod head that would take 16+Kgs on it......

Also at £25K it will most likely only ever find it's way into the hands of the big agencies

I think I'll stick with my 400

Comments from the NIKON equivelant agree with you...

"because the mobile-rocket launcher-look appearance of the lense and the focusing action of the photographer may invite some hostile return artillery fire from nowhere, hehe... "

Reuters uses Canon that's why they might have had it converted. Recently many wires have switched back to Nikon during a full-on push that Nikon has made to be many agencies and papers in the NYC area to come back to Nikon. Until fairly recently nearly everyone you'd see at any event from nearly every agency and paper in NYC was using Canon.

I have a few snapper mates (not motorsport) and they saying that the new Nikon D3 is far superior and some of them are switching over their whole kits to Nikon!

Yes, that's the camera that has changed people's minds back in favor of Nikon.
