Lazyboy, it was the manufacturers that have caused this rift. It was they who prompted the change to 4 strokes and agreed to the new rules.
It also does make a difference whether it is a 4 stroke or a 2 stroke winning, even if to no one else bar the manufacturers. SBK have categorically said they will go it alone and not join with the GP bikes. |

Isn't WSB where failed or older GP riders go to die?
Or as Barry Shean says "they go draw their pension on World Superbike" |

Lazy Boy,
I'm with the Elephino on this one. The momentum came from the manufacturers. Especially Honda. Why is Mick Doohan so interested in 4 strokes? Because his employers Honda want him to be. That being said, two strokes in GP's have only been around since the early 70's. Where tradition is being broken is over the capacity ruling, not the engine format. |

The whole deal stems from the fact that the manufacturers sell 4 stroke bikes to the general public. They are looking to lower their investments by compiling Superbike and GP into one series of 4 stroke machines so that they are building one version of a race bike instead of two. The 4 stroke machines can be directly marketted as street bikes to the public that way.
