Good question...not exactly falling all over themselves to make it happen.

Interview with Gerhard Berger. Honestly, I wasn't convinced when I learnt about his becoming ITR president, but now I've got the feeling that Berger is the right person on the right place. I just have the feeling that he can do something really good in DTM.
Q. Looking into the mid and long term, how do you see the convergence with the Japanese Super GT, the Class One, theoretically coming into force in 2019?

A. Right now we are focussed in our championship, in our own regulations. We know that FIA has the intention of doing something, but our focus is to strengthen our competition. If, in the future, we have a commercial and sporting opportunity thatís of interest for us, we will see what we do. But, right now, our focus is the present.

As I've always said, DTM needs more manufacturers, and the Class 1 project was a great opportunity.

The Lausitzring racetrack has been sold to Dekra, who is developing autonomous driving technology.

Dekra is open to renting the track to promoters of DTM, Superbikes or other races, but they won't organise races themselves.

Do you really think that DTM needs unification with Super GT? As far as I'm concerned that not something super exciting. For me, DTM should go more towards Supercars-like touring car racing. And actually, I don't really understand why are you so sceptical about Berger and his plans. I don't know whether you've read this interview. He does want new manufacturers and this is something which is on his agenda but probably that won't happen very quickly.

Wait, not TCR? I thought TCR was the be-all and end-all of touring car racing?

Maybe a German TCR championship could run alongside it, like the STW series did. So what do people think about the loss of Lausitzring?

I definitely agree.

Berger has damaged junior formula racing under his authority in FIA. Nearly every F3 championship in Europe has died.

I don't see him thinking big. He seems like continuity to me.

TCR are underpowered for DTM.

I agree. My first post was sarcastic in reference to every single other thread, from AUS, to BTCC, whereby the answer is always 'TCR'.

It's not 'lost' is it? It's just changed ownership - by the sound of it races can still go ahead there.

Hmmm - there seem to be conflicting views on this - Autosport definitely think it's closing but I'm sure I read elsewhere that Dekra weren't going to be organising any events but were happy to rent out the circuit to other organisers.

If it does close is it a major loss? Are there any other circuits in Germany that could take up the 'spare' round or would they look for another round outside of Germany (Brands Hatch please ).

Oschersleben or the Sachsenring, I reckon. Is Diepholz still a going concern?

Imagine them at the Sachsenring, that would be a spectacle for all!

Lausitzring is not very spectacular circuit so DTM returning to Oschersleben or going to Sachsenring instead would be a good move.

Oscherslaben can produce close action, but apart from the fast chicane, the circuit doesn't really excite.
