Silverstone Museum

The circuit needs a museum something extra - maybe in the Farm complex (of buildings).

Covering the entire history of the British GP - from its first running at Brooklands, thro Brands, Aintree, Silverstone - plus all the bike history, sports cars etc...

would make a great museum - rather like the one at Le Mans. It needs to make itself more of a 'place to go'. open the paddock bar again (why on earth did that close?) and bring the buzz back - right now the only fun to be had at Stone is in the marshals campsite.

The British GP was held at Brooklands in the 1926 / 1927 I believe with chicanes on the finishing straight. Won on both occasions by Delages.

I think it was also run in 1935 at the track.

Also the London GP ran at Crystal Palace in the 1930's

I think Peter is probably thinking of a GP as in a world championship GP.

There was no world championship pre war but there were Grands Prix. There was a European championship.

Autosport incorrectly stated that BGP was first held at Silverstone in a recent issue - in the same issue they talked about an inaugural London GP in 2006. Hmmm funny how pre war history seems to have been erased by the World Championship

Yes there were Grands Epreuves but I still don't think they were called the "British GP".

OK I stand corrected. They did call it "The British Grand Prix".

The farmhouse at Abbey is like a sort of museum, but only for BRDC members. Lots of memoribilia, old books, photos, prints (some of mine even!) and paintings.
The paddock bar has been shut at recent BGP weekends as it is used for the F1 drivers briefings.

A racing museum would be a great idea and a extra thing to do on the fridays/saturdays of a gp weekend with free entrance too!! To be honest tho I cant really see if happening, if they have to money to build one, I think it would end up being spent on something else
